Alkmaar is known for its cheese market and museum, but also has much more to offer. The city has stunning monumental buildings, such as the Waag (weighhouse) and the large Sint Laurens church. Alkmaar is characterised by its charming narrow streets, many courtyards and beautiful canals. A round trip by boat is certainly recommended.

The city centre and Alkmaar train station are just a 5-minute walk away. Transport links with larger cities is also very good: Amsterdam is just a 40-minute car or train journey away.

The hotel rooms are equipped with a shower, bath, telephone, safe, Internet connection, minibar, hairdryer, television and tea and coffee making facilities, among other things. The suites also come with a bath or jacuzzi, bathrobe and slippers as well as a spacious desk. Conference facilities are also available at the hotel. Surroundings

The Amrâth Hotel is located in the centre of Alkmaar. This city is know for its famous cheese market, beautiful historic centre and many shops. From Alkmaar you can reach the seaside resort of Bergen aan Zee within 15 minutes. This village lies on the edge of the Schoorlse Duinen: the widest area of dunes in the Netherlands. The village of Bergen itself exudes an artistic atmosphere, as many of the residents are artists.

Food and Drinks

Breakfast is served on weekdays from 07:00 - 10:00, and at weekends from 08:00 - 11:00. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there are many restaurants and bistros in the direct vicinity. Besides what's on offer in Alkmaar, there are also many restaurants in nearby seaside resorts, such as Egmond aan Zee.

Amrath Hotel alkmaar
  • + We always stay in the amrath when in alkmaar. The staff are extremely nice and helpful and accommodating as we sometimes arrive from a very early flight. (we do notify them in advance) it's a short walk from the train station. It's in a lovely setting with the canal in front and lovely views of the molen van Piet and the kerk (depending on which room you have). Breakfast is very "Dutch". With plenty of choice. I booked the Amrath this time through hotels.nl and found them

Best place to stay in Alkmaar.
  • + The Amrath Hotel is the ideal place to stay when visiting Alkmaar. Comfortable accommodation, helpful and very pleasant staff. We are always allocated the room we like best . Walking distance to all of Alkmaar's historical and shopping spots. Not far from the train station. We are repeat customers of this hotel and look forward our next stay.

  • – 1. No food room service 2. No restaurant 3. Hence from 1 and 2: not a 4-star hotel 4. Breakfast room too small for the number of rooms -- no table for 15 minutes on one day. 5. Breakfast buffet very basic for a so-called 4-star hotel.

  • + The hotel provides an exellent standard of service. We find the staff both friendly and helpfull. We always enjoy our stay in the Amrath (Alkmaar) The hotel is in an exellent location and is within walking distance of the railway station, as well as the cultural and shopping areas.

A wonderful experience at the Amrath
  • + Amrath Hotel ticked all our boxes, comfort, convenience, efficiency, friendly helpful staff, value for money, location. The pictures on the website do not do it enough justice.

Clean and perfect comfortable room size.
  • – At night you have to knock the glass door using your own hand if you want to enter the hotel or phone and wait somebody to attend your phone call and open the door for you. I stayed several times in this hotel and it happened all of the times I stayed in.

  • + This is a lovely hotel very close to the centre of Alkmaar.The rooms are very well presented , ours had a balcony with a very nice view.The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good

Good value for money in a great location!
  • + The location is excellent - only 2 minutes walk to the old centre of Alkmaar and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and spotlessly clean. The breakfast is good. I would recommend this hotel and definitely stay here again.
  • – The lighting in the bathroom is too dim - other hotels in the Netherlands have this problem too. It's better to bring your own hairdrier - the one provided isn't very good.

Go on, have a go at this hotel! You won´t be disappointed!
  • + We travelled with a 4,5 month old baby. We were allowed to check in a bit earlier and the baby could settle in after 36 hrs of travel. Very friendly staff, great service, fantastic breakfast, good cleaning personel. Nice rooms, close to centre of town and station. Nice hotel bar. Very pleased with this hotel and we will come back here when we travel to Alkmaar again.
  • – No Wi-Fi available in hotel room, only broadband that you have to plug in. We traveled with Ipod which can only use Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi available in hotel bar tho, so good excuse for a nice drink in the evening.

Great stay, but door key problems
  • + The room was very lovely and the location was perfect.
  • – Our room key did not work properly. We informed the desk staff and they said the battery was probably running low in the door dydtem, but they did not do anything about it.
