Description
The name of the hotel refers to the poem De Hoofdige Boer, that the poet A.C.W. Staring wrote in 1820. The poem is about a stubborn (hoofdige) farmer, that rather waded through the water than using the newly built bridge.
During a stay in Landhotel de Hoofdige Boer Almen guests will be surprised by the delicious food, the excellent service, the peace, a good bed and the romantic surroundings. The sylish hotel rooms have a private bathroom, television, writing desk, telephone and a radio. Three of the rooms have a balcony and four rooms are on the ground floor. For business meeting and parties the hotel offers two rooms.
Enjoy the peace, space and the natural surroundings the hotel offers. The attractive Hanseatic towns of Zutphen and Deventer are also within easy reach, by car they are about 30 minutes away.
Food and Drinks
Start you day with a good breakfast, that is served between 08:00 and 10:00 h.
Across from the hotel lies a tea garden, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a High Tea after a biking or hiking trip.
In the attractive restaurant you can take a nice lunch or dinner. Each season the menu is changed with savoury and traditionally prepared dishes. Besides an à la carte dinner you can also order a three-course menu or lovely pancakes.
Behind the hotel there is a terrace, which has a view of the garden and the Berkel valley. On sunny days guests can enjoy an al-fresco dinner. The hotel bar is open from 08:00 until 23:00 h. and the restaurant is open between 12:00 and 20:30 h.

Surroundings
Close to the village of Almen you can go for a nice walk in the connecting nature reserves of Velhorst, 't Waliën and Grote Veld. The paths guide you along heath, woods, farm field and traditional farms. Or grab your car from Landhotel de Hoofdige Boer and drive to the attractive Hanseatic towns of Deventer and Zutphen. Medieval streets, warehouses and many renovated monuments characterize Deventer. In the centre of Zutphen you will find the Sint Walburgis church and the Berkelpoort gate, that is part of the city walls.
