Hotel Asterisk Amsterdam breathes a very friendly atmosphere and is situated in a 19th century building that has expanded over several premises throughout the years. There are different rooms available for every budget due to the original construction of the premises. Numerous interesting sights, such as the 'Rembrandtplein', 'Museumplein' and the 'Albert Cuyp' market are all within walking distance. The hotel is also easy to reach by tram and bus, so you can easily travel in any direction.

The hotel offers excellent service. The staff will gladly inform you about special events, museums or restaurants that are nearby. If you explore Amsterdam by bicycle, which is very convenient, you can safely park your two-wheeler in the inner courtyard of the hotel. But motorcyclists are also looked after. There are a few anchors in the wall that can be used to secure your bike. All rooms are equipped with a television, phone and safe. The 'basic' rooms have a shower and toilet in the hallway, while all other rooms are equipped with a private bathroom. Hair dryers and electric kettles are available on request at the reception.

The continental breakfast is served from 07:00 to 09:30 h. in the cosy breakfast room. The reception staff will gladly advise you about nice restaurants in the vicinity, where you can enjoy lunch and dinner.

Hooftstraat' or 'Van Baerlestraat'. More interested in bargains? Pay a visit to the well known 'Albert Cuyp' market or flee market on the 'Waterlooplein'. The 'Museumplein' with the renowned 'Van Gogh Museum' and 'Rijksmuseum' can be reached within a 10-minute walk. Robin Laska Excellent budget hotel: 8 May 2011; 7.8; + The hotel staff are fantastic and they provided excellent, friendly service. They even found me a doctor when I was ill. They had maps and guides and discounts for museums. Breakfast was nice as well.; - The buildings are old so there is no lift. The stairways are steep and narrow, so be warned if you have heavy luggage.

The rooms were spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff was so friendly and helpful and even gave us extra TLC. I recommend this hotel without question. The location was perfect for getting anywhere in Amsterdam.; - None!!

Anonymous Too small compared to price: 24 November 2010; 3.0; + Location; - Very small room 2,5 x 2,5 m. on the top floor two houses in between my room and the main hotel. Heating system next to room 68 where I stayed. Impossible to reduce temperature inside room to acceptable level. Very hot air coming from the wardrobe.

Joni Huuhtanen Good value for money.: 29 November 2009; 8.0; + Nice clean room, good quiet location near trams and reasonable walking distance from the centre. Service was good. Toilet + shower was in the same room and it was nice. I could definitely stay in Asterisk again. Some rooms are on different buildings on the same street.; - Breakfast was a little too simple to my taste. No elevator but luckily our room was only one floor up from street level. I'm guessing that its a cultural thing but personally I don't like toilet seats that leave your poop for display before flushing. Smells bad too.

Would definitely go back.; - Lots of stairs! This is fairly standard for Amsterdam I know but we were over there doing the marathon and climbing up to the room afterwards was like going up the North face of the Eiger.

JP Close to major museums: 8 September 2009; 8.6; + Great location for musuem lovers. Within walking distance to Rjiksmuseum and van Gogh musuem. Also close to Heineken brewery, canal tours and the market.; - Narrow stairs which may be a problem if you have huge luggages.

Sonja Excellent budget choice for Amsterdam!: 31 August 2009; 8.2; + Great hotel for this price range. Better then most you would find in amsterdam for this price. Clean, spacious room & facilities. Great breakfast. Lovely staff.; - The only minus is a small one - the hotel is a little bit further on from the 'central' area of the the city. But it's only 10 mins walk or a quick tram ride, or 5 mins by bicycle. The little extra distance is by far made up by the quality of this budget hotel.

David Good location but rooms need work: 4 August 2009; 7.2; + Good location- it's quiet and a fairly close walk to the museum quarter. the trams are close by and can take you anywhere in the city easily. the rooms are good sized. friendly reception who was very helpful. breakfast pretty good; - the room is a bit tired and needs renovation. bathroom had a smell and and shower curtain needs to be changed. the beds were not too comfy. cleaners didn't do a great job.

Anonymous Reasonably prıced Hotel wıth a Lıft: 27 May 2009; 10; + Thıs Hotel was located ın a good area wıthın walkıng dıstance of museums. It also was a short walk to the Tram Stop whıch was convenıent. Securıty was good wıth a card to slot before you could enter the Hotel. A bonus was, ıt ıs non-smokıng and had a lıft, a bıg plus for a cheaper Hotel ın Amsterdam.I enjoyed my stay here.

Johnny: 29 March 2009; 8.0; + good location, quiet but not far from center and close to tram lines; the lift is very useful and rare for an Amsterdam hotel; the basic single room was quite spacious for 1 person and for Amsterdam standards and also had a shower although it wasn't in the booking!; - it's a non-smoking hotel, so it's not suitable if u wanna have a spliff in the room (but u can do it everywhere else in the city..) they blocked my room for a while cause they found some weed even though I didn't smoke in the room, but after explaining that everything was ok; they didn't change the towels.

Free internet for couple minutes :) Big nice room, enough space for everything. WIFI; - We got triple room, but always became towels only for 2 person. Bedding of third bed didnt change, probably cause we closed bed in a wardrobe. There is no instruction how to connect to WIFI.

Leslie Sikora A real find: 18 January 2009; 9.4; + Great value, rooms clean and neat, staff helpful and friendly. We needed an elevator for one member of our party, which was one reason we chose this hotel. Near Albert Cuypstraat; 6 or 7 tramlines close by - convenient to everything.

Amanda Roy: 7 December 2008; 8.6; + It was relatively easy to find. We wished we knew it was more walking distance and the tram wasn't necessary per se because we bought tram tickets and never used them b/c the city is so walkable. it was nice to have breakfast, though it ended rather early for twenty-something year old travellers. I appreciated the blow dryer that I was able to rent, and the front desk people were very nice; - Our room (number 18 on the ground floor) smelled like cigarette smoke when we got there. My fiance wasn't feeling well at all when we arrived in the city and it was quite hard to have to wait until 2pm to get into our room so he could lie down to try and feel better. We wished we were able to check in earlier than we were Other than that, we had a really great time in Amsterdam. Thank you -Amanda Roy
