Hotel Barbacan is a 3-star hotel on the east side of the city centre of Amsterdam. The beautiful green residential area in which the hotel is located houses some attractions that offer fun for all ages. You can pay a visit to Artis Zoo for instance. Over 700 animal species inhabit this oldest zoo in Europe, where you can also find several monumental buildings and museums, such as a geological museum. Artis is situated in a beautifully designed park with many exotic plants. When you are impressed by this colourful display, then you should also pay a visit to the nearby Hortus Botanicus. For an extensive anthropological collection you and your family can visit the 'Tropenmuseum' (museum of tropics), which has an interactive section, specifically designed for children.

Divided over three floors there are 23 rooms in Hotel Barbacan. The majority of the rooms have a private shower and toilet. Besides that there is a number of basic room types, which means you share a shower and toilet with other hotel guests. A television, a phone and a safe are available in every room. From Amsterdam Central Station you can reach Hotel Barbacan in about 15 minutes with tram 9 towards Diemen, get off at the stop 'Plantage Kerklaan'.

A beautiful walk towards the city centre takes you to the former Jewish district. This area houses the 'Joods Historisch Museum' (Jewish Historical Museum) as well as several synagogues. In this city district you can also visit the 'Waterlooplein', this flea market is the place to find a good bargain.

Not a 5 star hotel but if you are looking for a place to sleep...

-It is pretty close to the center of Amsterdam -The beds were comfortable -They have tight security at the front door -Would recommend to people who are just there to sleep and don't care what the hotel looks like. - Just know its not a 5 star hotel, the rooms look like the picture but like 10 years older. ha

- A lot of mold - There is construction right across the street and it wakes you up at about 6 am. (not that bad and nothing the hotel can do about that though. - The staff were really weird when we first got there. The debit machine was down so they asked for cash right when we walked in the door.(very weird) - Would not recommend for people who like nice places

Hits basic satisfactory levels, but not reccomended!!!!!

Staff were lovely.

Rooms were to small!!!!! could hardly move (no joke). Mold on the windows and walls. Lampshades selotaped on. No remote control for the tele. Laminate flooring was lifting off the floor due to the damp conditions. No shower facilities on our floor as shower was out of order!!

Not perfect but very pleasant, would stay there again in the future.

The breakfast provided was lovely. The hotel has computers with internet access for a reasonable rate which came in handy. There are some lovely bars and restaurants nearby, and as the hotel is a little out of the centre their prices are nowhere near as extortionate. The rooms have satellite TVs with access to the BBC, so when you've exhausted yourself for the day it's nice just to relax in the room. Staff are friendly and helpful. Quiet location which was a bonus as well.

Shared bathroom was between quite a few rooms so you could be waiting for the toilet/shower for a while, but never for very long and it was always kept very clean. Rooms could have been a little cleaner for example there were occaisional bits of chewing gum stuck to the wall and furniture. However, these were very minor problems to a pleasant stay.

Intimadating male staff made stay unfavorable

The breakfast was good. Bus stop nearby was a plus. Daytime staff was friendly.

Beds were not comfortable. Evening staff was inappropriate, making sexually provacative statements to females, and making up rules to control guests and intimadate them.

Many. Hotel needs some TLC which would make it a much better hotel. Not worth using the parking they suggest as for a mere 5 min walk you can park 24hrs for around 13 euro (instead of 30).

The room was very clean despite not having an in built toilet.The sheets were very clean too. We slept well.

Shared toilet was shocking to us. WE were not told so on the website. It should be stated clearly at time of booking. There was no ironing facility. WE had to borrow from the next hotel. Dissapointing. You do not expect only rough backpackers at your hotel. Descent business men and women may want to have their clothes properly ironed before stepping out. Please review that policy of lack of ironing facility

I love Amsterdam. The people are very friendly and everyone can talk english. The service in this hotel was wonderfull. The breakfast is simple but enought. The communication is easy and I think that is a good idea that there are computers in reception.It makes my life more easy.

The information for to go to the hotel wasn't clear (tran) and we needed to walk a lot to arrived there. The location isn't in city center, but is in a quiete area.

Quiet neighbourhood. Comfortable beds. New towels every day, and cleaning of the rooms. Nice people in the reception, and the breakfast dining room. OK, and plenty breakfast. We wouldn't hesitate recommending Barbacan to our friends.

Two separate beds instead of one double. Broken shower handle, we had to hold the shower with one hand while showering. Too short shower curtain meant wet floor after showering. Undermanned (though polite and smiling staff) in the dining room, long wait for breakfast service. Bathroom dirty on top of plumbing up close by the ceiling.

Los desayunos son una auténtica maravilla, tanto en el servicio, como en la cantidad y calidad de la comida. La relación calidad precio es muy buena, comparada con otros hoteles.La situación del hotel con respecto al centro es bastante buena, en 5 minutos el tranvía te deja en la plaza Dam, lugar céntrico de la ciudad.

Las habitaciones no son demasiado grandes, y las escaleras, típicas por otro lado de la zona, son demasiado empinadas y no hay ascensor.
