Description

The Averechts is a hotel on a clipper, which was built in 1892. The cabins are small but cosy and have a wash basin with cold and hot water. Besides cabins for two persons the botel has cabins for four persons. The Averechts has a cosy lounge with a fully equipped bar and kitchen.

The Oude Houthaven, where the ship Averechts is moored during the winter, can be reached in about 10 minutes by bus from Amsterdam Central Station. In the city centre the museums Stedelijk Museum, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are certainly worth a visit, although these are just some of the many cultural sights in the beautiful city. Via the streets Houtmankade and the vibrant Haarlemmerstraat you can walk to the centre of Amsterdam.

The breakfast is served in the communal part of the boat. The ship does not have a restaurant, but on request a simple but tasteful meal can be prepared. In the Haarlemmerstraat and on the site of the nearby Westerpark there are several restaurants and beaneries to be found.

On the boat guests with a laptop can use the wireless internet connection for free.

+ It was a really great experience to stay on a ship in Amsterdam. The ship was full of character. We had a quad cabin for a family which was cosy and comfy. The communal area was ideal for relaxing. Plentiful breakfast and friendly helpful hosts. Excellent value for money.
- a bit of a walk to the tourist sites, but this shouldnt be a problem if you enjoy walking and you get to see canals that you may not otherwise see.
Ian Li Great stay on the boat!

+ Friendly captain; delicious breakfast; good location; novel!; clean; comfortable; flexible Located about a mile west of the central station, it was a comfortable walk to the center, but far enough outside that we were able to get peaceful sleep. Captain and wife were attentive, friendly, and sweet. Accomodations were very nice for the price and pristinely clean. I'll stay here again next time I'm in town. Also: cabins are 2-per or 4-per, so it was perfect for traveling with a small group of friends!
- no minus points! These great accomodations helped make my trip perfect!

+ The idea of sleeping in a boat is quite original.
- Most of the people sleeping in this hotel the 2 nights were young men coming in Amsterdam to have fun, and they were quite noisy...

+ The host was wonderful. Breakfast was fresh and ready every morning on time. We very much enjoyed our stay on the Boatel Averechts and have recommended it to many of our friends already. It was a unique experience and I'm so glad we found the listing.
- The boat was moved when we returned and we had to look for the new slip where it was docked. We didn't know that might happen, but it was quickly found. No harm, no foul.

+ Great Location. Small cabins but comfortable beds. Breakfast was basic but plenty of it!! Friendly staff. Eager to please, and guests left to own devices most of the time.
- Maybe slightly expensive for type of accomodation but then, they need paid a fair price. Um. Would need more information on movement of the ship one is staying on. Tended to be moved without telling the guests. Just needed more information to keep guests fully informed. Um, especially older guests like me travelling alone.
Evi Katz One of the best experiences!

+ A different and very special stay! Due to their small size you get a much personal service than any other accommodation available, and is absolutely better than staying to a similarly priced hostel of much poorer service and maintainance. The boats are equipped with nicely-though small-built rooms of max 4 persons, meaning better privacy and safety. Also have perfectly designed common facilities (dining room/ kitchen / shower & wc),large (considering the boat dimensions) and well maintained. Furthermore, once I arrived a bit earlier than check-in time, the owner of Schip Averechts made shure we had a place to drop our luggage, offered us some coffee and kept us a great company untill our room- unfortunately on an other boat- got available. The breakfast was better than what many 3 or 4 star hotels offer! Also, sometimes the boats go sail around the canals and offer you the chance to spend a couple of hours aboard viewing the city, ask the owner for info! And there is always the chance for larger groups to arrange and book an entire boat upon request. Absolutely satisfied with their service and definitely going back!
- A bit hard to reach the boats using public transportation if you are a foreigner or carry a lot of luggage; better to go by taxi once there are sometimes really tiny streets leading to the piers you might overlook. I myself took a taxi to be shure. Generally the rooms are a bit tiny and the upper beds are a bit difficult to reach, but.. it's a boat, isn't it?! Also have in mind the bathrooms are common and on some boats not that well kept, depending on the owner. Not suitable for people with accessbility problems or families with kids younger than 5 y/o due to sharp stairs and shallow corridors. Enfin, I stayed on a boat who's owner was german and spoke really bad accented english and dutch and the crew aswell; their service was a bit poor in contradiction to the people of Schip Averechts. But again, it depends on the boat you will be arranged to stay, so I recommend to contact the Schip Averechts for any detail right after your booking to make any further arrangements.

+ Very friendly, personal service. Also very cute living on a boat. Highly recommendable if you're into the novelty and willing to sacrifice some comfort.
- Tiny rooms with no place to sit upright. This is, however, a boat so what can one expect? Be sure when going to the botel that your taxi driver or whatever knows and looks closely at the directions. There is a much larger, better known botel that I was directed to and it took me an hour to get back.
