Score of 5 reviews: 8.4

The building was originally used as a national savings bank and later as a school of music. Starting in 2008, the building was restored to its former glory and now houses the Conservatorium Hotel. The rich history has been woven into the contemporary (interior) design with utmost care.

To rebalance mind, body and soul, the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Center offers an impressive 1000 m2 of fitness and spa facilities. Each room reflects one of the four elements. 'Earth' applies to the lounge where you can enjoy fresh organic sandwiches. The main area, 'Water', offers sounds, aroma therapy, Watsu hydro-treatments and hammam treatments. For a good work-out you can visit 'Fire', an area with a variety of fitness equipment, such as the Kinesis Personal by TechnoGym. 'Air' is a calming, peaceful space for Pilates, yoga and tai-chi. Furthermore, there is a swimming pool of 18m x 5m, perfect for some laps in the morning.

The hotel offers extensive services, ranging from 24-hour roomservice to complimentary high-speed Internet, luxurious bathroom amenities and a complimentary daily newspaper. Three suites are suitable as bridal suite. In the hotel you will also find a cigar shop and a jeweler. For a good lunch or dinner you also don't need to leave the hotel, since there is a wide selection of restaurants and bars. The hotel is also suitable as a location for business meetings, with flexible venues and state-of-the-art equipment.

Surroundings

The location of the Conservatorium Hotel is perfect for a city trip in Amsterdam, since it is located around the corner from both the P.C. Hoofstraat with its designer boutiques and the Museumplein with the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. Enjoy a night out in the nearby concert hall and go on a morning stroll in the Vondelpark.

Food and Drinks

The restaurants and bars in the hotel are open to both hotel guests and other visitors. Start your day peacefully on one of the large sofas in the Lounge in the Atrium, with a cup of coffee, tea and cakes. The informal Brasserie, also located in the Atrium, offers light fare such as salads, sandwiches and daily specials. On the first floor lies Restaurant & Bar by Schilo, from where you have a view of the Atrium and the Paulus Potterstraat. Or watch how the chefs cook your meal in the open-plan kitchen, using regionally sourced produce. In the stylish bar you can order (mix) drinks and tapas dishes.

  • One of the bedside lights did not work in room Fish was undercooked in restaurant
  • * my tip If you need a good quality city centre map ask at the Information Desk. The staff are really helpful and will book restaurants for you over the telephone. They told us to take the blue boat canal ride and it was fantastic.
