Reviews

The following independent reviews were entered by guests after their stay at the hotel.

Anonymous Very basic
3.4
+ Somewhat out of the downtown, the occasional midnight or early morning drunks on the street are unavoidable. Otherwise location was fine.
- Fitting of room very basic: 2 beds, a small table and stool, a sink and that was all. Also heating could have been better, by -2 Celsius it is such a delight if it exists. Also we did not trusted to use the shared shower so we went to a spa instead.
Anonymous Great (noisy) location
5.4
+ Great location for visiting the centre of Amsterdam, Nice staff.
- Very noisy, the rooms are very moist, almost no ventilation, bad matresses.
Anonymous Excellent Budget Hotel Close to Central Station
6.8
+ Great location close to Central Station, very close to picturesque canals (but not close enough for a view), friendly staff at check-in, supermarket nearby, windows open for fresh air, hot water didn't run out!
- Room was a bit shabby - peeling paint in places and a few cigarette burns in bed sheets,
Anonymous Happy with hotel.
8.0
+ It was clean and in a good location. Would stay again.
- The stairs were a killer and the walls very thin so people coming in at 2 or 3 in the morning would wake us.
Christine Good Budget Hotel
7.2
+ Basic but clean with a good, hot shower and heating that worked. Nice quiet location within easy walk to station and centre.
- Small room but reasonable for price. Stairs - usual for Amsterdam. Cafe Bar charged 2 euro for a cup of hot water!
Anonymous Funny weekend in amsterdam
7.2
+ great! we booked a quad room and got a 3 room appartment with livingroom and kitchen
- u cant smoke weed inside :)
Walter Noons I plan to stay here again.
8.6
+ A nicely appointed studio apartment in a historic neighborhood.
- Not enough serviceware: pots, pans, knives, forks, dishes etc. I bought several bowls dishes, etc and left them for the next guest. There is no point in having a fridge and a stove with nothing to cook with or eat off of. Also, there are no lamps of any kind, only ceiling fixtures with very low wattage bulbs.
nancy mcfaull Cheap & cheerful in a great location.
7.2
+ The staff were very helpful. We got to check in early as our room was ready.
Anonymous Funny place to stay if you are on budget and like some privacy.
6.6
+ Friendly staff. Two towels per person - jee.
- Not realy clean.
Maria Basdeki Dirty/No hygiene
5.2
+ It was a studio, quite large for two people, with a fridge and kitchen.
- This place was not prepared when we arrived -and we arrived quite later than the check-in time- and it was not clean. The toilet had stains and the toilet paper roll was dirty. The floors were dirty -we even found a dirty sock under the bed and it was not ours!! Service was not good, since we kindly asked from the reception for someone to help us switch on the heating and although they told us that someone is on his way to the studio to help, nobody showed up, so inside the studio we were covered with the blankets so that we don't catch a cold. Furthermore, the glasses and plates provided in the kitchen were not washed. We had the worst time ever and the worst hotel experience.

corinne caumartin It is cheap and definetely not cheerful

+ Let me think, errr, let me think again.....Damned there must have been something about this? the price is lowish, but not low enough to compete with the hostels and personally in the future I would crack another 20 Euros and get something resembling a hotel.
- For the price you suspect will know not be getting much: you are correct. The hotel looks very old, not very well maintained and a bit dirty throughout. Since it was winter it is worth mentioning that it was cold, drafts comming from rotting window frame, musty smell throughout. Only 2 light bulbs in the light fittings added to the general air of gloom. Beds are tiny and not too bad. The winning bit? As with other people: the plumbing packed in and there was only freezing water, so no shower available . Also when we arrived we were told that we could leave baggage in the hotel after check out, this means leaving your luggage, on the floor in front of a counter that is largely un-manned so that anybody can help themselves.... The absolute worse that made me angry so was the unfriendliness: it knew no bound. The woman in charge (East European, I think) was an absolute B****, I do not say this lighlty: her entire attitude and body language screems : I hate the public in general and you in particular.....She managed to be slow (ignore people for 30 mn at breakfast), patronizing (spoke to us as we were 18 years who had never been out of our houses) , quite rude and as you imagine, it was a delight to have her dealing with the plumbing breakdown. As we left, a new member of staff came in who was sunny and friendly, it makes a bit difference but for me it was too late: never again.
Marianna Cosy, cute and central

+ great location and discount price during off-season. perfect for what we wanted.

+ great location, has its own airport taxi service.
- did not get fresh towels during the stay, heating did not work.

+ nice staff
- the toilett smells "soure" in both of the rooms we had
Anonymous Ok for the price, room small, a lot of street noise.
4.4
+ Good location easy walking distance from Central Station & main centre tourist attractions
- Very noisy with mopeds going past all night.Had a long discussion before we were given the included breakfast.Lights went out on the last evening so had to shower in the dark.

+ Location and price
Heidi Central, Cheap and Dirty
4.8
+ The beds were old and worn out but very comfortable, which was quite surprising. There are two rooms: one is downstairs (three beds, sofa, chair, tv, kitchen area, bathroom) and one is upstairs (two beds in a big room - they could easily add a few more beds to fit more people in). The location is central, and the price is cheap - the rest is crap but at least you have a place where to crash.
- The apartment was on the 4th or 5th floor (I lost count!) and there was no lift. The stairs were very steep which made it quite a climb. The bathroom smelled of sewage (ewwww) and the shower was weak (not like the powerful ones you get in better hotels). Kitchen plates, cups and cutlery were all dirty so if you are going to use them, make sure you wash them first by yourself! One big minus point is that the door lock wouldn't work. You can lock it from outside, but when you are inside the apartment and try to lock the door.. Well, it won't lock. We reported to the hotel so they hopefully will do something about it! And oh, I found a dead insect on my bed. It might be a good idea to bring some washing up liquid and bleach with you, just to make you feel better.
Russ Good location and value!
7.4
+ Hotel is easy walking distance to central train station, the Dam, and central Amsterdam. Service was friendly and breakfast which was included was adequate. The wireless internet worked well.
- If stairs are a problem for you, this may not be the place for you.
Soedesh Jankie Good hotel for backpack travellers
6.6
+ Breakfast was nice and included
- One of the beds was damaged. The spring of the matras came out and also the toilet didn't flush well.
Anonymous Shit location does the job
4.8
+ The room was comfortable & spacious
- It says 5 min walk from hotel really 10 the guy who brought us there didnt know where he was goin between my room an the next was a boarded up door so every noise you could here
Stephen Good value for money.
7.4
+ Exellent size for the price.
- Kitchen was a little spartan and the oven didn't work.
Anonymous Location is not enough
3.6
+ Good location
- Only blankets for one out of three beds. Room very tacky.
Göran Lassbo Haarlemmer Dijk for ever!
8.2
+ Fantastic surroundings in the best part of the best city! Nice staff, fully acceptable breakfast. I can not understand the negative comments of some of the previous contributors on this page. How could one possible expect more from a low budget, one star rated 18th century hotel in Amsterdam? If you look for Holiday Inn standard, then book Holiday Inn!
- The walls are a bit thin and the showerroom would not suffer from a curtain and a ceiling scrubbing.
Liga Jurjane Hotel
7.4
+ very good location!
- not good hygiene!
Kenneth Grindall Cheap place to sleep, could be nicer...
5.0
+ Great quiet location near great shops with a real working neighborhood.
- Poor security, sparse breakfast, easy to hear other guests having loud sex. Infrequent bed linen changes, noisy fan in bathroom.
Anonymous Not great but ok for a few days
5.8
+ very good heating system! always hot water!
- realy realy small stairs to go on with baggage!
Timothy Patterson Excellent Choice for Budget Conscious
9.0
+ Only a 10-15 min walk to/fm the train station. 10 min walk nw of Anne Frank house. Near enough to Red Light to walk but can walk home to escape area too. Coffeeshops nearby if so inclined. Adequate, small room with clean bare essentials. Bar downstairs open till fairly late. Grocery store nearby.
- Breakfast not that filling but free.
tosh Mediocre hotel in a great convenient location
5.0
+ location, location & location
- not the cleanest and very small rooms. No basic amenities for the cost/price paid.
woods If you aint got a sense of humor stay away!

+ The hotel is ideally situated for walking to the city centre. it is cheap by comparison to some others, but then you get what you pay for!!
- The carpet in the bedroom was not something you would want to walk on. It was filthy. The wardrobe was 3 coathangers on the TV bracket!!We expected small rooms, but a few coathangers would not take up much space.
Gary Henderson
8.4
+ Very close to the train station and coffeeshops, freindly staff, warm and comfortable. fresh towels everyday. will be back.
- we were staying on the top floor which has a very steep staircase going up to it.
bradley hastings Great weekend trip to a great city Amsterdam
8.0
+ We loved the location, everything you'd need or desire within 2 blocks, central station 10 min. walk, quiet spot with lots of quality shops for wine, cheese, bread, restaurants, which appears to be the norm for all of amsterdam. The hotel was in an old building that gave us a local perspective on life for the average person from the netherlands. I'd use this hotel again.
- the room was small, clean, no frills such as room service. I discovered most of the apts. and hotels are all rather small compared to what you'd expect in the states.
John Perfect low price stay in Amsterdam!
8.4
+ Close to central station, clean and comfortable considering the price! Nice bar/lobby and friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent if you consider that it was included!
- Would of course be nice with bathroom in the room but then again, it was cheap!

+ I have given hygiene a 5 because the room was reasonably clean. Service also scored a 5 because my friend was helped with her case up the two flights of stairs. Location got a 5 because it is not that far from the central train station.
- Oh dear, where do I start. I stayed in the studio room with a friend. Firstly the room is not located at the hotel. After checking in you are taken to the room which is a 5 to 10 minute walk. The room was not as per the photograph and was in fact a totally different room. The bathroom is very small and contains a shower and a toilet. However there is no shower curtain. Because the room is so small you can have a shower whilst sat on the toilet. The one sink is in the kitchen which has a heater above it for the water. There is a balcony which had a crate of empty beer bottles on it. The furniture in the living area was ripped. There were 2 windows. One had a curtain to cover it and the other had a mattress. There was a television but it was not plugged into or near any electrical or aerial points. There is a curtain rail that separates the sleeping area from the living area but there was no curtain. There was a mark on the bedroom wall were it looked like a drink had been spilt. The pillows were very lumpy and there were some marks on the towels. It was a real disappointment.

+ - central location specially when arriving at the Central Station - easy to go around to visit museums and the city
- - old and disagreable aspect of the small room - difficult staircases to access the rooms - bad relation price-quality

Anonymous Für Amsterdam eine solide Unterkunft
4.0
5.6
+ Prezzo tutto sommato conveniente, posizione abbastanza centrale e zona tranquilla.
- Pulizia delle camere non effettuata, stanze piccolissime e scale strette e ripide per raggiungerle.
G.H. Leopold Goed voor een nacht zonder comfort.
6.2
+ Ruime kamer; gunstige ligging t.o.v De Jordaan en Westergasfabriek.
- Kraan boven de wasbak zat los. Douche gaf een minimale waterstraal. Televisiebeeld was SNEEUW.
