+ Very friendly atmosphere, by hotel staff. Artistic decor, nice back yard. Great room keeping, and custodian work. Very basic, but good breakfast menue.

- Problems, with wifi internet, at the lounch, no internet access in the rooms, no refrigerators.

+ My flight was late and I arrived past midnight. The receptionist was really friendly, courteous and professional, and made me feel very welcome.

- The taxi driver had to call the hotel as it was under another name. Name on website should be the same as the sign outside.

+ the room and outlook were beautiful and the barman and lady receptionists were so lovely and helpful with my request for hot water in my mug. the room cleanliness were great too.

- i was very tired on arrival at your hotel and your male receptionist was not very welcoming and not even a smile whereas all the ladies were lovely. he did not even give me a map until i read it in the hotel info. i think he would benefit from a course on people skills and learn from the girls. marleen in patrticular was full of smiles and so helpful even showed me good restaurants and helped me with the map.

+ Definitely fair price/quality. Comfort/service: Higyene is absolutely excellent. Absolutely clean. No dust at all. No odors at all. Location: excellent. Walk distance to a wonderful park, to bus stops and a bike/scooter rental service. Staff very polite and helpful. Comfort: compatible with category and price. Breakfast: no info about this.

- Service: bathroom needs some minor servicing on the mirror, painting and tiles. Not enough shower soap. Comfort: Expect narrow and steep stairs. This is not a surprise at all in Amsterdam, actually. You are warned. Location: There are 2 streets with very similar names. Even local residents may eventually find themselves confused about this. It took me 30+ minutes walking around to find the correct address. They should make their address and directions absolutely clear (and capital letters) in their website, emails, leaflets, etc.

+ The staff was very friendly and helpful. If u rent a bike you are not that far away from things. There is bike rental chain whose flier you can find in the lobby. Quiet area steps from major park with lake. Nice park. The philosophical theme was painted throughout, which was pretty cool.

- The safe and television did not work. No WiFi in rooms. The floor was sloped. Small for even European standards. It was a busy weekend and they could not move me until the 3rd night but they did refund me 20% for the first 2 nights.

+ great quiet location, nice public rooms in hotel main building, friendly and helpful staff

- not all rooms are in the main building, some are located in other buildings over the road! This we think lead to a lot of noise from residents that maybe you don't get in the main building. we were disturbed all night by the heavy room doors and front doors which slam shut when people are coming and going which really did go on all night! Also we wre 3 in our room and only had enough towels on the first day. Once housekeeping came we were left with just 2.

+ 10 minute walk to the city center. Nice bathroom, good shower. Comfortable beds, a little too soft. Good customer service!

- 35 euro to get a taxi to/from the airport. Not many good restauraunts really close, mostly 10-20 minutes walking away.

+ It was walking distance to the city center.

- i was sleeping with my partner and someone just walked into our room without even knocking. Just wallked right in and assumed no one was there. Very Very Rude!!! almost frightning. The shower always flooded out onto the bathroom floor and there was no heat in the bathroom. The soap was screwed onto the wall and so when it is low..like mine was. there is no way of getting any soap out. The Sheets smelled and were in very poor shape. What was up with the plastic in between the sheets too? We requested a late check out and we were charged for it. In all my years of travelling all over the world and stayed at many many hotels. High end and mid level...never NEVER have i been charged a late check out fee. That's just BS. Overall. I was very disappointed. I don't think ill be returning and will not recommend it to anyone.

+ Good area, nice park (Vondelpark) just around the corner. Line 1 is just 4 minutes away. Excellent service - they provide you a good list for restaurants.

- Rooms are very small - some rooms are too small to store the suitcases away. The shower has no door to close hence the whole floor is wet. Breakfast is overpriced - better go downtown.

+ Location, although parking a car might be a challenge.

- We stayed in room nr 14. In bathroom, upper board of the door, was very dirty. You can see dark blue dirt lines with drops of it - it was terrible. Lighting lamp of the "living room" was very dusty inside, nobody had cleaned for months. A bible was used to keep an heavy window open, we removed this. Reception refused to change coins for parking, as they are not an exchange machine. What if I would have liked to have a beer - could not sell - no exchange? After 450 km driving, we had to go to city to begg for a change, it was imparrasing. Breakfast was 15 euros per person, as if in luxury hotell. Instead we had good breakfast at bakery for 11 Euros for two adults. Last time we stayed at Prince Hotel, the same street, nothing special, but clean and friendly. I am glad we did not have children along this time. Never ever again.

- Clean but not meticulous. Towels were not clean yet changed upon request.

+ I have stayed in better rooms at the same hotel. This time I landed up on the other side of the street. I will certainly use the Filosof again, BUT see my Breakfast suggestion below!

- I have stayed in much better rooms at the same hotel. This time I landed up on the ground floor across the street with workmen outside of the window. A big problem was that a staff member urgently knocked on my door after I had gone to sleep because of a possible leakage. After some time I lett him in. Nothing was found. This was a very insecure method of communication. I should have been conracted by phone before the door knocking. I have eating better breakfast in other hotels. This breakfast was not very "Philosofic". Here the hotel the Filosof could learn from another Hotel in the same class range: ie AXEL HOTEL GULLSMEDEN in Copenhagen Denmark. The Filosof could with big benefit copy their "Philosphic" breakfast. Send someone to check it out.

+ Room is clean and neat; Free internet available in the lobby; Location is not that central but still manageable, with only 15-20 minutes walk to the Musuem Quarter.

- Luggage can be "stored" in a corner at the reception area before check-in or after check-out. Guests have to compete for spaces. By the time I collected mine, the lock of my luggage was detached and lost but I haven't lost anything fortunately.

- The room I got, although characterised as a "DELUXE" room was at least very poor equiped, old fashioned, half below the earth (floor -1), nothing to do with an acclaimed deluxe room. Although I have arranged for a double bedroom, I I arrived just my self because of an accident. I asked at least to pay the second day for a single room, and guess what....they refused. Very remote from downtown, trying to get customers with the philosophical attitude. Fowr me phisophy doesnt mean lack of comforts....

+ Has charm. Reception and lounge area are nice, garden would be lovely in summer. Room was clean, comfy and charming. Very quiet.

- Staff not that friendly. Philosophical theme done in a slightly tacky way, in our room anyway. Average breakfast, especially for the price.

- Run down room with the comfort of a student dormitory. I booked the luxury room, which was rather large. But the bathroom had not been redone since 1965 and the interior was a big collection of 'ouwe meuk'

+ Decent sized room and bath--very comfortable for the price. Quiet neighborhood with easy access to the trams. Breakfast included, which is always a plus.

- Customer service was severly lacking--a smile and warm welcome at check-in would've been a nice touch. The receptionist made it clear she couldn't answer my question til she finished what she was doing and then gave appeared annoyed that I would ask something about the city. I could've done without the attitude.

+ The hotel is situated in a beautiful neighbourood, close to Vondelpark. The hall,the brakfast room, and the garden are very nice.The staff was helpful and spoke english very well.

- The rooms are a bit small. That could be considered normal in A'dam.

+ Away from the busy centre of Amsterdam but easily accessible tram stops. Walking distance from Vondelpark.

- No tea/coffee making facilities. Not overly impressed with the cleanliness of the shower/bathroom. Having to queue for the toaster in a restricted space- especially as only half the toaster was in working order!

+ Very helpful staff, and fairly silent street. Price was reasonable. The rooms each have a special design - our was a bit tacky, but it had its charm.

- Parking is possible on the street, but it it really expencive - 19 euro pr day. The room was REALLY small, but then again we werent there to stay in the room. There were some weird stains on the carpet and the bed had a plastic cover on the matress which made it really uncomfortable. The bed was also extreamly hard and worn down.

+ This hotel is clean, comfortable and full of character. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. It isn't in central Amsterdam but its within a short tram or bike ride of everything you'll want to visit.

- Good location. Quiet street close to Vondelpark. Nice and friendly staff. Decent breakfast but not very special. Got a free upgrade to a suit in a seperate building accross the hotel. Good bed. Reasonable TV room. Did not like interior design very much, nor the sofa. For this suite (number 135), for which they normally charge approx. 300 Euro, the bathroom is absolutely below standards. A build in closet combination of toilet, shower and a small sink on 2.5 m2. Reminded me of my student days in Amsterdam. These were happy times for me, so overall I am happy with my stay.

+ Quietly situated near to Vondelpark, but close enough to Amsterdam center, on foot or by tram, to make city visiting easy. The hotel has lots of charm with well decorated rooms, clean & comfortable. Breakfast is interesting, lots of people in a slightly crowded but friendly atmosphere. All in all a very pleasant stay at a reasonable price. Thankyou.
