Hotel Crystal Amsterdam

Good for groups on a tight budget

• + Ideal location for our needs
• – A bit tired fixture & fitting wise, but served purpose well. Stairs not for the feint hearted.

• + very good location, good breakfast and all receptionists were helpful and friendly
• – steep stairs, no elevator but this is the case for most budget hotels in Amsterdam. Very soft beds in our opinion. Overall we were very satisfied.

Great walking distance to the Canals and Museums

• + The bed was very comfortable.
• – The bathroom could use a good cleaning. It wasn't dirty but had mold and mildew.

Not really value for money

• + Really well located and some of the staff were pleasant.
• – The room looked nothing like it was advertised on the website. Very badly maintained and run down building and the long steep staircase was really scary. Also, the wifi system is a joke and the internet was really slow, when it did work.

Steep,Steep stairs and no remote control for TV!!!

• – No elavator,stairs more like ladders,asked for ground or first floor ,ended up on 4th floor!!! Also no remote control for tv.....antwher...as in they dont have remote for any of their tv s!!!
• * my tip Shop around there are better value hotels than this in the area

A YES

• + For the price a great stay, friendly staff and breakfast. Novel (very Dutch) staircase - read 'steep'. Location close to Leidseplein (5min walk), but far enough to be quiet. Leidseplein has most things you might need including a big tram stop. Close to Vondelpark and museum precinct. Close enough to walk to city centre. I would stay there again.

Great location, let down by cramped space and poor internet connection

• + Easy walking distance of the Leidsplein, Vondelpark and the Rijks Museum.
• – Internet connectivity was unusable. The toilets are so cramped that they are near impossible to use.

Nice weekend trip in Amsterdam

• + Good QUIET location/area. Museums & flower market are really close. Trammy stop near by. 24h reception. Breakfast included. Helpful & nice staff.
• – Small tiny stairs! Rooms can be cleaner...

• – They change my room with out telling me I wont stay again

Great place for budget stay!

I would return without question!

• + The staff and service was nothing short of great. The breakfast was awesome for an included meal. The establishment is clean and in a safe well lit area.
• – The bed was a tiny bit soft but that's a personal preference. And the stairs are steep...but that's Amsterdam so if you don't know that then you need to read up. There is really nothing negative though. A bit far from central but the quietness is the best! A short tram ride there...no problem!

Perfect for a cultural/leisure city break

• + The staff is friendly and the room we were in was spacious enough and clean. The hotel is very well located 2mn from Leidsplein, 20mn from The Dam, 10mn from Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum in a calm area. The breakfast is included (it's not the Hilton buffet but it's fine).
• – The stairs look a bit scary at first but there are not a problem at all actually.

• – Very uncomfortable bed Noisy Very cramped toilet

Not worth the money

• + Location ok, walkdistance from almost everything. Breakfast ok, not fantastic but ok.
• – Small towels, 50 x 70 cm. not much for a grown man after a bath. No cleaning in room, we staied for 3 nights ??? No clean towels. Mousetrap in room :-(

A good accomodating hotel with steep stairs.

• + Very close to Leidseplein / town. Towels/Sheets etc changed every 3 days. Helpful staff. Quiet location. Old building. Safety deposit box in room. Decent self service breakfast included in price. Good tram connections.
• – Steep stairs, but look at the old architecture, tall narrow buildings, so steep stairs everywhere. Fine for younger people. Room was a little small... <10 sq metres. Poor metro connections.

Ok, but a generally poor standard of cleanliness.

• + Nice location - near to Leidseplein and museum quarter. Fairly cheap but you get what you pay for...which isnt a great deal.
• – * Breakfast very basic and orange juice was not fresh - it had separated. * Stayed in the quad room. Room had a musty smell - there was a plastic bag over the smoke alarm. Bathroom very very small - shower did not have an arm to hold it up so was resting on taps - had to hold it over yourself to shower. * Beds were very soft - although this isnt a problem for everyone, it was more like sleeping on pillows. Also matresses were not even so felt like you were going to roll off if you slept on one side. Gave me a very bad back. * Stairs are very steep. 5 flights and no lift. We stayed on top floor and the hotel staff did not offer to help with our suitcases. * Housekeeping was not very good. Only changed towels once during our 5 day stay and nothing else. * Wouldnt recommend to others.

nice hotel, nice poeple, I enjoiyed my stay

Decent cheap hotel

• + Good value for the money. Breakfast is decent despite no fruit. Nice staff. Good showers even though they're shared.
• – Walls are kind of thin, bring earplugs if noise bugs you. Minor quibbles: scary staircases, but nothing new there for Amsterdam. Toilet in hallway is REALLY tiny.

• + nice hotel in a good location. very nice staff
• – an old building, as everybody says, very steep srairs indeed!

Not bad, but if traveling alone I'd look elsewhere.

• + Pretty decent location. Not too far from a convenient tram stop and in a nice quiet neighborhood. "Close enough, but not too close to all the action". Staff was fairly helpful and the hotel itself had a bit of that Dutch charm. Windows that actually open!?
• – 4 floors of Dutch stairs with no elevator. Top floor does not have a common shower, so you have to use the one on the 3rd floor. Bed and room was cleaned only 2 out of 3 days during my stay. A bit pricey for what you get. Like all Dutch single rooms, it was very small.

Hotel Crystal, good over all

• + Clean rooms, friendly service, no lock outs, quieter area of town
• – Steep stairs, small eating area, some rooms are quite small

• + We (2 adults 2 children)had a 3 beds bedroom on the second floor with en-suite bathroom and balcony on the street side. - the decoration looked new and general condition of the room was rather good for an old building. - quiet (can sleep with the window open in summer) - clean, nice and soft bedlinen. - we found the location convenient for people who do not mind walking a bit. - service not proactive but always nice when asked. - breakfast room open on a small backyard with armchairs.
• – - Basic furniture (functional but no particular character). - Be aware of the steep staircase (I guess typical of the old houses). - Not particularly cheap, but the breakfast is included and more like brunch (juice, cereals, milk, 2 kinds of bread, eggs, cheese, ham, salami, jam, honey, coffee and tea).

• + Well-located, clean, friendly hotel. Good breakfast.
