Hotel Iron Horse is a hospitable and pleasant 3-star hotel in the heart of Amsterdam, just a 5-minute walk from the lively Vondelpark and the dynamic going-out district around the Leidseplein (Leidse Square). The hotel houses 42 rooms in a stunningly renovated, historical building. Its interior is modern, warm and comfortable. The building has previously functioned as a stables for the horses of Amsterdam's mounted police. The decorative images of horses and the stable doors in the hotel's current interior playfully refer to this past.
The hotel has 4 floors at the front of the premises, the rooms of which either overlook the street or the hotel's inner courtyard. The rear of the hotel, the former stables, has 3 floors offering a view of the inner courtyard or the inside of the hotel. The spacious, light rooms come with a comfortable double bed and a modern bathroom with a shower, toilet and hairdryer. Each morning the hotel serves a tasty continental breakfast, and there are countless restaurants and cafés in the vicinity of the Iron Horse where you can enjoy a nice lunch or dinner. Hotel guests are able to hire bikes at the hotel.

This hotel for as nice and friendly as it was could really do with some double/king/queen sized beds for couples as I had a issue with falling down the gap of the twin beds pushed together.
*my tipIf you love ribs/steak may I suggest the Café de Klos, which is located Kerkstraat 41-43 , as dingy as it looks on the outside the place is absolutely amazing and rustic inside and the food is amazing :)

Well located. Staff was overall helpful especially the good-looking girl with oriental features who as promised went out of her way to provide us with black tea which was not available at the time. Night-duty receptionist was also very helpful. His explanation on the best way to reach our destination out of the city (what tram/bus to get etc) was spot on. Good, solid connection on Wi-Fi. Handy supermarket two doors away. Unusual layout in hotel which makes it special. Used to be stables in the p

Breakfast selection was decent but very basic. One morning we were late coming down and the bread was not very fresh. Otherwise, cannot complain about other food items. Despite this minor hitch, I would strongly recommend this accommodation.
Also: We noticed one particular room did not have a window facing outwards. It was an internal room with no access to the outside - it would probably not have been a pleasant stay if we were to get that room. So advice: ask for a room with a window faci
