Description

Hotel Old Quarter is a nice hotel in Amsterdam, only a 3-minute walk from the Central Station. The hotel offers a choice between a luxury room with private bathroom, cable TV and a wonderful view over one of the oldest canals of Amsterdam, or basic, functional rooms with a shower and toilet in the corridor. On request, a radio alarm clock and luggage rack available.

The hotel lies on a unique historical place and does credit to its name Old Quarter. At the place where the hotel is located, the first houses were built in Amsterdam. What the area looked like before can be seen in the Historical Museum. The Old Church on the Oudekerksplein is the oldest existing building in Amsterdam. In recent years, many houses in the neighbourhood were renovated and so was Hotel Old Quarter. The former police station in the Warmoestraat is where a fictional famous Dutch police inspector solved his crimes. Cafe Heffer has many attributes to this inspector.

Hotel Old Quarter is a cosy Dutch hotel. The multilingual staff will do everything to make your stay as smooth as possible so you can look back later at a great time in Amsterdam. Whether you would like to book a tour or a cruise through the canals or want to rent a bike, they will help you on your way.

A little further are Spui, the Rembrandt Square and the Leidseplein with its many cafes. The Waterlooplein market attracts many visitors every day. Those who feel like visiting a museum have plenty of choice. Near the hotel is the unique museum Our Lord in the Attic, the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum, the Erotic Museum and Science Centre NEMO, and these are only a few of the more than 50 interesting museums in Amsterdam.

Reviews

The following independent reviews were entered by guests after their stay at the hotel.

Anonymous Good but not great
4.8
+ Very close to Centraal Station, next door neighbor to Hunter's, which sell excellent bubblegum weed and awesome milkshakes. Nice bar with live music and usually smoking allowed on mondays.
- Included breakfast was shit poor. Rooms were nasty, stunk of weed, dirty. Angry owner. I asked him if he knew if kratom was safe to drink with alcohol, he looked and me and yelled "Kraut? Kroot? Krautem? KROOTEM? This aint a goddamn smartshop" Expensive for what it is.
Anonymous Great no frills hotel
7.8
+ Great location close to Central Station Superb service
- V basic
Anonymous The Quaint Old Quartet
7.2
+ The food in the bar is excellent, and the staff were professional and courtious.
- beds were just camp beds
Anonymous Hospitable and suitable city centre spot
8.2
+ Position, price, hospitality
- Comfort (mattress needs replacing), noisy (red light district)
Anonymous Very good for the price, apart from the TV remote deposit system.
8.2
+ Friendly service, good breakfast
- It is not fair to advertise the room as having a TV, and then to make a guest leave a deposit for the remote control. The TV was placed too high up to use the ordinary buttons. Perhaps the remote could be attached to the wall by a cord.
Jack Taylor Very friendly Will be back.

+ Enjoyed our stay,hassle-free weekend, staff very pleasant and helpful.
Zdenka Dudkova We were really happy here
8.2
+ We were really happy in this hotel. Comfortable beds, clean room and nice stuff directly in the city centre. Just in the middle of entertainment.
Anonymous Basic, central, cheap.
5.6
+ Location, Price, Decent breakfast
- Poor quality beds, noisy if yyou get a street facing room.
Christopher Phillips Cheap, clean & tidy. Pleasantly surprised.
8.2
+ Cheap, clean & tidy. Excellent location. No complaints from me. Smoker friendly rooms, Coffeeshop right next door & red light district a 5 minute walk away. Perfect for the single traveller or group of guys.
- Hotel could do with a facelift as looking dated. Other than that a good budget hotel in an excellent location.
Anonymous Budget Holiday At Hotel Old Quarter Amsterdam

+ Centrally based.
- Change the bed sizes..they are smaller than a single. Get rid of that big blue coffin by the window.
Martin Seitz Good, central und busy environment
7.6
+ near the train station a'dam centraal, near red light district, good hotel, clean, good location, friendly staff
- very busy street all night long, no a/c so in summer your windows stay open and noise from the street wont let you sleep
Giovanni Pisoni Nice find

+ - Great value. 50 euro for a single in near-high season, room simple but spotless, shared bathroom and shower but they were next door and perfectly clean. Big windows and smoking in the rooms allowed. Couldn't be more central. Highly recommended for laid-back travellers.
- - Internet is only available in the common area (there's a nice pub and restaurant on the ground floor), while the hotel description says everywhere. No other negatives though.
Arni Bjorn Olafsson Could be a great Hostel but its a good low budget Hotel.
8.8
+ Great location. Great Service. Good breakfast.
- Heavy stairs. One shared toilet/shower.
Isabelle A nice central hotel
7.2
+ ideally located, the double room was small but clean and comfy.
- the simple windows make it really hard to sleep as the street is full of activity!
Geir and Kessrin Haraldsen Nice staff, good atmosphere, good location. Beds not so good
6.2
+ A nice hotel, good atmosphere and great location. The staff was very nice
- The beds were not good. It should be a fridge there, and a small table.
Michael Excellent location & a good value!
7.0
+ Great loction, just a very short walk from the central train station. While not spotless, the rooms are reasonably cleam. Good restaurant. Excellent breakfast included (choices are limited, but they will let you substitute cheese for bacon). Staff was friendly. Good value for the price. We were concerned that the hotel might be right in the Red Light District, but it is actually a couple of blocks outside of the RLD. Because of great location, friendly staff, breakfast, and price, I would consider staying here again on my next trip to Amsterdam.
- Rooms are dated in appearance. Rooms vary in size, but our twin room was very small. Nothing separtates the toilet from the shower. The shower curtain covered the bathroom door and the toilet paper, but did not separate the shower from the nearby toilet. The arrangement looked funny, but it worked fine. You may smell marijuana smoke wafting throug the hallways, but after all, it is Amsterdam!
Ronnie Yellen Not up to American standards of cleanliness and size.
5.6
+ The location was perfect for the central station. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Room and bath were not cleaned in the five days and the bed was not made just covered to look made. Shower was open so entire bathroom got wet.
Anastasia Katsea Clean and friendly value for money
8.8
+ Very central, basic but clean, staff friendly and helpful
- Nothing really

DANIELA STANEVA The worst place I've ever been
3.6
+ good location - very close to the main sight seeings in Amsterdam
- The room we had had nothing to do with the one I saw during my booking. We're given a room organised as a corridor. 2 single beds in a raw. a 1,2 sq metre bathroom with waterclose included in it. the sink is in the corridor /in the room/!

+ All good, for a lads mental weekender we enjoy hotel, very friendy place with nice helpfull bar maids.
Mr Bedbugs@thishotel Good friendly staff and location. Worst hotel room ever!!
4.6
+ Location, 5 mins from central and Red light district. Coffee shop right next door. Staff were friendly and were on hand when required.
- We realised this was a low budget hotel and that we should not expect a great room etc. We stayed in the quad room which was on the top floor. Beds were small and not very comfortable. Now the worst part - BED BUGS!!! We were constantly under attack during the night and after we did get to sleep, we woke up with bites and red marks. I've stayed in sum low budget hotels but this was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. These bed bugs leave you on edge while trying to get to sleep and with the uncomfortable beds you don't really sleep. Also we had friends staying in other rooms - all with bed bugs! Carpets looked dirty AND after booking the hotel for 4 nights our Bed Sheets were not changed once!!! Breakfast was 2 eggs n scrappy bits of bacon served on a small side plates. We would never stay here again. Honestly bad rooms is one thing, but blood sucking bed bugs is another!
John Stamp Good value pleasent hotel.
8.8
+ Conveinient location. Basic but comfortable and clean accommodation. Good value pleasent hotel, will be returning next year.
- None.
Kevin A Friendly clean budget hotel.
8.2
+ Clean, friendly staff, great location for central Amsterdam. A great place if you need a room just to get your head down.
- none.
Robert The web picture is misleading
5.4
+ The restaurant was good especially for dinner. The same breakfast every day was a bit disappoionting. The staff were friendly.
- The rug in the room was very worn and dirty. The cupboard needed repair. For the price I would have liked a blow dryer. Also, a bathroom rug was not provided and that would have been an asset. We asked for more bath towels and they provided them but not face towels or hand towels were provided. We were disappointed that the room smelled very smokey and that was because they are not strict about the non-smoking policy. A light bulb burnt out and it was never replaced after we notified them. It took us a bit of time to get use to the street and all the various people on it as it is close to the red light district. Good central location though.

+ very good location, 5 minutes from central station ,in heart of red light district, breakfast is ok
- bed bugs !!, very small rooms, not enough place to put your clothes on and meanless rule of the hotel when you enter or leave the hotel you must pass thru the bar and show your hotel card to the bar stuff, and after they push the button the door opens to the rooms

PETER C ROSENWALD UnSatisfactory
3.0
+ Location is a plus-but also can be incredibly Noisy all night long. People working there seemed to be nice.
- Tons of deferred maintenance needs to be done. Revolting smells in parts of the Hotel. Good hotel to leave your bags and that's about it. Totally unsatisfactory on almost every level. Would never, ever stay there again at any price.

+ Location, breakfast is included, friendly staff, hot water, good shower, decent bar and music and a good bar menu.
- camp beds in our room, I got bitten about seven times by a hungry bed bug, but my other two mates in our triple room didn't, guess I chose the wrong bed!!!! It wouldn't put me off going again.
heather neilan Ok for the price
7.6
+ cheap , central, handy for station
- noisy , at night and in the mornings , ridiculous remote door unlock system to let you through to hotel accommodation , instead of key with room key , the woman boss is rude and surly
ERIC WALKDEN Very good position for pubs, cafes shopping.
9.4
+ very freindly staff, and helpful.asked to change room,as it was up a narrow flight of stairs..without fuss they gave us a room acsessed by the lift.would definitly return again

Dwayne McGowan An excellent hotel right in the heart of the Dam, would recommend !!!
9.2
+ Location, Friendly staff, Canal view from deluxe room brilliant
- Breakfast could be better
Davie Basic for budget!!!
8.6
+ Very good location. Rooms fit for purpose, i.e. getting your head down!!! Very friendly staff.
Peter Svitek Great deal if you want to be in the middle of Amsterdam happenings!
8.0
+ When clicking through your web sites, "Room rates" section, there isnt a word about breakfast, while "Restaurant" section mentions English breakfast for 7,5€. So I was expecting breakfast not to be part of the deal, and the nice surprise was that it was included. Maybe make it visible at "Room rates" site as well.
- Cosidering price/location ratio, I can ignore tiny negatives :-)
Anonymous For young people who don't want to spend much time in their hotel!
5.4
+ Good location, in terms of being in the centre of town... not so much good with the crowds of drunk people falling around outside the hotel and all along the road. better in the daytime! cat in the hotel restaurant!! 24 hour reception, friendly staff.
- The room was tiny, 2 single beds in front of one another, not side by side, noisy snoring neighbours (thin walls), breakfast greasy, bit smelly in general (smoking permitted in rooms and no windows in hallways... pictures on website do not show whole experience
Aleksandra Yankova Nice cheap hotel in the heart of Amsterdam.
9.6
