Reviews

The following independent reviews were entered by guests after their stay at the hotel.

Anonymous Good location and helpful staff.
9.6
+ We like the location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is convenient for the museums and art galleries which was our main purpose. The tram from the station to the hotel is easy. There are good places to eat nearby. The breakfast is good for the amount we paid. We like the youthful ambiance although we are far from youthful ourselves!
- The rooms(we have stayed twice) are quite small but we were hardly in the room so not really a problem.
Anonymous Disappointed!
6.0
+ great location for exploring, and staff very frindly and helpful
- although room was sold as double, it was very small even for one person. could improve on soft furnishings ie pillows, curtains. room was in basement, vwry dark and dingy, if you open a window you have other guests smoking directly outside( very ucomfortable especially for a non smoker). could hear noise all night from above ie people walking around, furniture etc. also i would have preferred a choice of breakfast, not just a cold buffet; does not cater for other people.
ELIZABETH OYEWOLE Lovely hotel, friendly, helpful staff and transport great
8.8
+ Clean hotel, close to amenities, great for transport if you don't want to walk to the city centre which is about a 20-25minute on foot. The staff we're great and very helpful. The complementary hot drinks was an added bonus, breakfast was not too bad though not hot except for the drinks. The only downside you couldn't swing a cat in the bathroom and there are no shower curtains when you have a shower which leaves the floor wet. We had a basement room, and would have prefered that the decor was a lot lighter which may have given a sense of more light. Overall it was a nice hotel, would recommend and use once again whenever we're back in Amsterdam.
- Dark decor in the basement small shower room with no shower curtains
Anonymous The hotel was nice the room was miniscule
5.4
+ Good staff
- For a tiny tiny room in the basement it was very very expensive (I mean tiny)
Anonymous Location
8.2
+ Location, friendly staff, excellent breakfast
- Very small room and small bathroom
Martina Klancisar Modern hotel with a great atmosphere!
9.2
+ Amazing breakfast, cool design, friendly staff, our room was incredible, big enough, with a balcony, clean, complimentary tea/coffee/hot chocolate throughout the day, free wi-fi, a walking distance from all the attractions.
- Hardly any, maybe the elevator is quite small, we had the room facing the street so could hear the trams regularly, but that's not really hotel's fault. Also, mosquitoes :) But again, hardly the hotel's fault!
Nelly Stoelinga Go again for good service

9.4
+ The hotel was very, very nice. Perfect for a weekend get-away. 15 minutes walk from the citycentre through the most picturesc neighborhoods. Freindly, helpful staff, nice room, a welcoming lounge area and a great breakfast. Perfect!

+ Excellent staff
Holger Good compromise for a short stay
7.8
+ 1) very friendly and sympathic service team 2) good starting point for exploring the city by feet or tram 3) very good quality of breakfast 4) very good beds
- 1) design is only "on the surface" (wall papers? - not functional - only nice to look at) 2) "design mirror" in bathroom hangs much too high for little persons resp. mirror in sleeping room is too small 3) "design light" in bathroom is poor 4) a little loud
Katrine Noerlyng Bad beds, but otherwise a good hotel.
6.8
+ The breakfast. The design. The quiet location.
- The beds are too small and the matresses uncomfortable.
A. Stam Prima hotel met centrale ligging
7.6
+ Een fijn verblijf in een mooi hotel, waarvan de ligging prima is. het personeel was goed, en de kamer verder ook. Al het nodige is aanwezig.
- Persoonlijk vond ik de bedden te zacht.
kira mitrofanoff Design and central hotel

+ good music, lovely chimney, good service, warm welcome, nice place
- small rooms
Yiannis Poulakas Great comfortable & stylish stay at Hotel V
7.8
+ location - ideal for sightseeing, restaurants, shopping etc. style - loved the interior design breakfast - excellent selection & great service comfort - felt very much at ease cleanliness service - reception very helpful
- size of room cold floors - rugs/ carpets would be better noise level from street - could be reduced with better soundproofing

8.6
+ Quiet and nice, no noise from traffic. Or from other guests. Tram stops just outside, very nice The beds were very comfortable. Excellent breakfast buffet! Every one of the staff was very kind and helpful. Nice with the free internet.
- The room (103)was much too small. No chairs and no desk - and no place to store the suitcases.
Sylvestre Good location very clean but very warm on hot day
8.2
+ staff very helpfull
- no air and no lift
Anna Nyburg Not impressed from london
5.8
+ The size of the rooms are only suitable for dwalf's, ie people who are vertically challenged. We have never been to a hotel where it was impossible to hang clothes.jackets, and move about the room without falling over each other. I have 2x cuts to my head banging on the sharp metal shelf in the bathroom. We will not be returning!!!

+ Great location, and very hip hotel.
- Tiny rooms!
Jeremy Davies Small rooms - Excellent Customer Care
7.4
+ Customer care from the hotel staff on reception and in the bar were excellent - The rooms were clean and well appointed I would recommend and stay with you again when I next visit Amsterdam
- Rooms were very small - the twin room was more the size I would expect a single room to be
Nathalie & David - Paris Très sympa :-))
8.4
Gillian Almost Great
8.2
+ Great breakfast, comfy room, very convenient but quiet area. Free computers in lobby were a fun bonus and hotel design was unique and stylish.
- Do whatever you can to avoid the room under the reception desk. I emailed in advance to request an above ground room as I was a solo female traveler and didn't want a ground level window. I not only ended up with a basement room, but right at the bottom of the stairs from the lobby (so all lobby music and traffic noise funneled down to my door) and under the reception desk (so I could hear the staff zooming around on their desk chairs-all night). Pretty disappointed as I had emailed in advance and the hotel confirmed they had received my request. Also, I would have given a higher rating for service as the staff was wonderful except for one guy who was rude every time we had contact over four days. Everyone else was superb.
Sinead Foley Friendly, convenient and good value.
9.4
+ Pleasant staff. Perfect location, right amount of distance away from the busy city center was in a nice neighbourhood of Amsterdam and still close walking distance to everything, if walking is not an option, tram is right outside the door of the hotel. Lovely breakfast. Good value for money. Was very pleased with the hotel.

+ Super service! super location! Only small rooms with very steap stairsway buts that Amsterdam for you :)
Anonymous Trendy hotel, just outside of action, room a bit small
7.8
+ Good location just outside of the action but a nice walk from the centre. Very fashionable hotel, staff very friendly, welcoming reception, free internet tea and coffee all day.
- Room very small but this didn't really affect our stay as we were never in it, so much to do in amsterdam, and a bit cold on arrival but a few minutes with the radiator on sorted it out. Although i requsted a double room it was two twin beds pushed together, as i'd booked it for a romantic weekend i was a little disappointed.
Paul Marks Excellent hotel, well positioned.
9.6
+ Hotel is stylish and modern. The check in staff were very welcoming and knowledgable. The rooms were clean and well equipped. On check in you get a voucher for a free drink at the bar and the breakfast was excellent. The location of the hotel is just 10 minutes walk from the Leidseplein and is right next to a tram #4 stop, which goes directly to the RAI within 10 minutes.
- Very steep stairs to the higher floors, which were no problem for our young party, but for the elderly or unsteady on foot it could be an issue.
Kirsten Amazing beds!
9.2
+ Very clean and the staff were very friendly. The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in! Great breakfast too!
- The room was tiny and there was nowhere to put anything - no cupboards in either the bedroom or bathroom.
Tina Lovely Location - Shame about the Room!
6.2
+ Great Location. Do not be put off by view. Just ask any of the staff to point you in the way of the park to go to the main street, loads of bars, cafes, etc which will lead you to a 20-25 min walk down to Dam Square.
- Special means dungeon in V! Was disappointed at size of room. OK for one night but no where to put anything! If you get room 010 ask to be moved as this is below the bar so you can hear them walking back and forward early in the morning setting up breakfast and the room is next to the store room/cleaners room/etc and very noisy!
Niamh D Excellent value, perfect location
9.6
+ Tram stops outside the hotel and takes you right into town. The hotel is near enough to walk anywhere in the city but tram was handy when in a lzy mood, or high shoes!!! The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. The hotel was really modern in style although rooms were a bit on the small side. Really enjoyed staying here and is great value for money.
S Solo traveler
8.2
+ Stylish, friendly reception, the barmen was very helpful, friendly and cute.
- Location a little out of the way but still alright with public transport
Iola Bunting Best hotel we've stayed in, ever!
10
+ We loved this hotel. The staff couldn't have been nicer, even printing out our boarding passes etc for the return journey. It was very clean, quiet and luxurious with the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in, flat screen TV with BBC channels. Ten mins walk down a lovely canal took us to the heart of things. Really hearty breakfast too. Will be back as soon as we can afford it!
- Although our room was small (we had a budget room), it was more than adequate for a long weekend and large rooms are hard to find in Amsterdam for this price. The lift is so tiny it made us laugh and was tiled in fake (I hope!) cow hide. The stairs however, unusually for Amsterdam, are not particularly steep and nice and wide.
Diana Welcoming, interesting hotel with very good breakfasts
8.8
+ Very friendly staff; nice breakfast area and very good breakfast with a wide range of food and great coffee. Interesting design elements.
- The room I stayed in my first night was not adequately heated and the bathroom was entirely unheated which made taking a shower unpleasant due to the cold. I would not have stayed another night in that room. The room I switched to was fine.

+ Complimentery Drink ticket Cool decor and style Friendly Staff Good location
- Had to pay for eggs at breakfast Couldnt borrow a european adaptor plug had to pay 7.50 Euros for it.
Yvette Would go back!
7.8
+ The breakfast was really great and got you started for your day exploring. The main lobby area is a great place to sit by the fire and has lots of reading material. Free internet use in the lobby is useful.
- The room was reallly small. If we had been staying any longer than a weekend with more luggage it would have been uncomfortable. Our room was not made up when we went up to it on arrival.
Alexis An all-round mid-size hotel for business and younger travellers
8.4
+ The breadfast! We loved it! All day FREE coffee and tea from the bar. Complimentry WiFi! 2 Mac computers aviliable at the lobby. The fire place and sofa next to the entrance promise you a relaxing day. Their staffs are young, energetic and helpful. Very comfy bed.
- No closet in room and not enough wall hangers for clothes. No table in room, only 3 small tools provided. Only one small rack in the bathroom, insufficient for our toilet amenities.(especially ladies) Since our room is next to the basement store room, some may found it is a bit noisy.
Victor Pitti Great Value - Victor from Panama
8.6
+ Great looking hotel lobby Nice, friendly and very helpfull staff Loved the added value itmes such as; free cofee or tea Liked to have breakfast included in the rate Loved having the nice cozy lobby with fireplace
- small rooms
J Good quality for the cost
8.8
+ Not too far from the centre of amsterdam, the tram will take you right there in about 10mins. Nice lounge area, rooms are small but contain everything you need for a short stay. Staff really friendly and helpful.
- Need to make sure that companies that advertise the hotel state it is non smoking (yes there are non-smoking hotels in amsterdam!). Not enough storage space for a longer stay.
Natassha Great Hotel and Decoration!
9.6
+ Nice decoration and ambience.....
- None!
Marein en Rene Relaxed and stylish quality hotel
8.4
+ Staff wants to make you feel good Lovely modern design fireplace to enjoy the Hotel's fine welcome espresso and glass of wine
- A bit noisy, building structure does not keep out cable car noise or footsteps from the room above
MITCHELL Hotel ideal for short stay
8.0
+ very helpful staff, bed very comfortable we would come here again!
- room 305 a bit small; shower tends to spray the whole bathroom!
Anonymous Great place to stay!
9.0
+ bar and restaurant staff were lovely. very helpful and always smiling. excellent location, we only ever had to use public transport to go to and from central station when we arrived and left.
- blonde woman at front desk over reacted slightly when my boyfriend put our case on the reception desk when handing it over for storage. i believe the words "ah sh*t" were directed towards us because she thought we'd scratched it!
Claris Pleasant stay
7.6
+ good bar service (provides hot water for us) comfortable bed clean place nice lobby with great atmosphere good breakfast.
- small lift. takes us a few trips up and down to move our luggages. no ramps up to the lobby. no kettle
Adrian I recommend it!

Anonymous
5.8
+ Uncomplicated and friendly atmosphere.
- Mentioned twice at the helpdesk about a an out-of-order light bulb and some old socks and empty beer bottles on the balcony - to no avail. To be honest, there's very little space for one's belongings in the room and the room and corridors are too dark for ageing eyes. The story about the socks was to be read somewhere in the internet reviews long ago!
Carlos/Adriana L.

+ We really recomend. Excellent breakfast!
- The stairs for the acess to the appartment
Katherine
9.6
+ loved the free wireless and internet great staff , really helpful and nice
- No full length mirror which was really annoying when it came to getting dressed especially going out at night! Also the shower looks good but the water goes all over the bathroom. Otherwise a great hotel!
