small rooms, unattentive staff they delivered our cases to the wrong room and took several hours to find them. not really a boutique hotel furnishings were tired and worn and not sufficiently customer focused. poor value for money felt more like a 2 to 3 star than a 4 star

A charming hotel with terrific staff
+
This is a charming hotel. We have stayed there twice, in 2010 and in 2012. Both times we were impressed with the accommodations and with the pleasant and helpful staff. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Excellent location, great staff. A very pleasant experience all round.
+
Staff were very pleasant and very helpful. Housekeeping deserves the highest praise -- spotless bedroom and bathroom.
–
The size and layout of the bathroom might be problematic for anyone with a mobility problem. I managed, (just about), but others with more severe disability than mine might find it difficult

Very friendly staff
Excellent breakfast at fair price
Location, location, location... arts, music, fine shops, supermarket, trams, parks...

expensive wi-fi
underground room for breakfast while comfortable and neat with its light wood decoration is a little bit disappointing if you like to see day light at your first meal

Lovely room in best location
+
We moved to a superior room and it was extremely comfortable with a large window overlooking a leafy green street scene. Good chairs and light for reading and great shower. Location was great -one block from tram, near 3 best museums, and a lovely neighborhood with shops and restaurants nearby.
–
It cost 13 euros per day for wifi which I think is outrageous and the only reason I would consider not staying there next time I am in Amsterdam.

Boutique hotel with bed and breakfast staff. They make Amsterdam!
+
The staff were so courteous and service so personalized you had the bed and breakfast experience in a hotel. Room was very comfortable, beautifully appointed and immaculate. The location perfect for touring anywhere we wanted on foot or by bike which we did for a day. Restaurant recommendations were perfect. The local experience while not overly expensive.
–
There were none. We would absolutely recommend this hotel and would have loved to stay longer. Amsterdam was a wonderful surprise to us in every way.

Ok hotel but disappointed with small room size and no bathtub.
–
We thought that we would have a bathtub but in fact we had a tiny shower. The room was also tiny - barely larger than the bed (room 108). THe lighting in the room was also odd - no central overhead light which made it hard to see. The lighting is ok if sitting in bed and reading but for anything else, it's like a cave. THe room also smelled a bit damp and musty. We will not be staying here again.
Disappointing - unfortunate because location is great.
–
Television did not function despite brave attempts by one staff member. Drain in shower clogged up.
I've stayed at the Jan Luyken many times and have noticed steady decline - I shall not return.

loved the personnel, disappointed with lower end room

all service personnel were very helpful and attentive.
–
Room size for the special price was very poor. We paid for an upgrade to a king size room that was much more enjoyable and much better value for the cost.

Breakfast far too expensive.
–
The breakfast, although good, was outrageously expensive. There was no where else open in the neighborhood. For this reason I will not be staying in this hotel on my next visit to Amsterdam.

Nice stay at the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken
+
The location is quiet, very close to the museum district, luxury shops, and public transportation. Staff were accommodating and the hotel was very clean.
–
Internet access is very expensive. The television was very small and outdated (not a flat screen). There was no dresser and not a lot of storage space.
