Description

The NH Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam originated in 1866, although it formerly functioned as a cafe. The founder, Mr. A.W. Krasnapolsky, commissioned the construction of hotel rooms in the building. This luminous idea formed the catalyst for the makeover from small cafe to the luxurious Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. Under the one roof you will find a genuine 'village', including a conference centre, fitness room, several restaurants, a convenience store and, above all, the hotel has a private jetty. In case of a long stay, seven nights or more, there is the option of reserving one of the NH Krasnapolsky Apartments.

Discover the incredible wealth in art, culture and history at ease. Amsterdam has a lot in store for you: beautiful architecture, impressive galleries, many interesting museums, romantically illuminated canals and a vivid nightlife. The central location of the Krasnapolsky Hotel at the Dam provides walking accessibility to all areas of interest.

Staying at the NH Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam guarantees spacious rooms, combining style and comfort. Air conditioning, coffee and tea making facilities, mini bar and room lockers are standard facilities in the rooms. The hotel has a glass covered courtyard that can be used for receptions for a maximum of 100 guests. There is also a meeting room for 10 guests.

Food and Drinks

The NH Krasnapolsky has a lot to offer in the culinary provision. You will encounter the Wintertuin (winter garden), Grand Café Mathilde, Restaurant Reflet and the Golden Palm Bar. All of these establishments emanate a unique atmosphere, though quality is what binds them. At the inhouse distillery De Liefde van Wynand Fockink you can purchase jenevers and liquors.

The Winter garden
Take a seat in the Winter Garden and enjoy the international breakfast buffet. This extraordinary place to start the day from has been added to the list of new monuments of the city's Rijksmonumenten. The glass roof, supported by a construction of wood and wrought iron, covers the room with a blanket of natural light. Decorations that characterize art, trade and science have been attached to the walls.

Restaurant Reflet
Restaurant Reflet entails a history at least as interesting as the Krasnapolsky Hotel itself and has also been adopted by the city as a preserved room. In the decoration, elements from around 1885 are preserved, under which there are several paintings and clocks. Relax and take a seat to enjoy a romantic dinner in style. You will have the choice between classical French dishes or delicacies from international cuisine. Menus change with the seasons. The restaurant is open daily from 18:00 h.

Spoil yourself with a high tea or a cup of coffee accompanied by delicacies from the in-house bakery, which can be enjoyed whilst observing The Dam and the Royal Palace from Grand Café Mathilde. Also the Golden Palm Bar enables you to take a delicious cocktail.

Internet

Internet is available for free in the lobby. In the guest rooms, the use of internet costs €10,50 per 24 hours.

Other information

- The hotel has a 24-hour reception.
- An extra bed can be placed on request for €80 a night.
- Only dogs up to knee-height are allowed at the hotel. The costs are €15 a night.
Dogs are not allowed to stay in the rooms without accompaniment.

- A different (cancellation) policy applies to group bookings for more than 9 rooms.
Extra information: In the NH Hotels a deposit that may vary between €50 and €100 per room per night will be charged upon arrival. This deposit can be paid cash or with your credit card. On checkout it will be balanced with the outstanding bill and the remainder will be returned to you in full.

Surroundings

The NH Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam is located conveniently at the Dam square. Many areas of interest surround this famous square. Examples are The National Monument, Madame Tussauds and the Royal Palace. The Dam square is situated in an area with a considerable amount of shops, consisting of the Kalverstraat, the Nieuwendijk and Magna Plaza. Also many museums, theatres and markets are easy to access.

Anonymous Great Location and Quality
9.4
+ fantastic quality, the remodelled rooms have put it back up with the best in Amsterdam. Location probably unbeatable, as a trade off against proximity to Central Station vs City Centre attractions. Good proffessional staff too.
- floors seemed to be a litle neglected in the cleaning regime, the new board floors could do with a mop each day instead of a cursory sweep.
Anonymous Old ,tired ,tired staff, breakfast buffet cold ,no waiters, dreadful
3.8
+ none ,totally wrong fro a 5 star hotel ,worst i have ever stayed in ,stayed here many times before ,its not the same terrible.
- given a non smoking room which smelt of cigarettes, breakfast was stone cold buffet ,the maitre de said his hot plates were not working ,i said he eggs benedict were stone cold ,he touched it with his finger ,said it was warm and left it on the buffet for a customer to put on his plate ,we were moved to a new room which looked like star wars ,no warmth ,kept waiting until 4 pm on a sunday for a room ,many customers checking out smoking joints reception area looked tired, never stay here again ,ripped out the soul of the hotel.
Anonymous Central location, good service but old fashion rooms
7.4
+ Wonderful breakfast in the winther garden and the hotel is in the middle of everything in the center of Amsterdam.
- The standard room was old fashion and in need of redecoration. The wallpaper was off some places. But big room, that is a plus.
Steven Tait Sorry I will never stay with you again.
5.6
+ The history of the hotel. Breakfast in the Winter gardens
- Left to bring my own luggage into the hotel as 3 employees wastched. Very tired room. Corridor smelled of pee. Very sad as I have stayed there many times. I will never stay again. Not the hotel it used to be. There is better value to be had.
joanne handley Not luxury but luxurious- would stay again
8.8
+ location, all toiletries provided so if you forget any of them-which i did-a massive plus, large comfortable room, very comfortable bed and pillows, free water on the reception, very welcoming after the walk from the station.
- not able to check in until 3pm although we arrived at 11am-we were able to leave our luggage though, asked for smoking room when booking but not given one, wiew from room-paid extra for best room available mmm.
Anonymous Convenient location for all of Amsterdams sights
8.2
+ Convenient central location, friendly atmosphere from staff, all very helpful. Room clean & tidy.
- Not luxurious, in my opinion for a 5 star hotel, expensive from that point of view, room although clean & tidy was "tired" and needed to be freshened up.

+ Goededag. This was just excellent. Next time we will stay at the Krasnapolsky the whole visit, now we moved to a guesthouse after the first two nights in the city to save a few euros. The service was perfect and the rooms are as luxorious as they get. Dankjewell! Mit vriendelijke groeten, Atli & Rosa
Salim Uddin-Khandakar Great location, housekeeping not so great!
6.2
+ Location
- Towels weren't changed just hung up. Facetowels were folded back near the sink even though they were soaking wet. Terrible housekeeping!

10
+ True customer loyalty. I only booked a single room, and the hotel upgraded me to a junior suite with no additional costs.
- None
Robert Smyth Nice hotel but a bit dated
7.2
+ The hotel was in a great location with it being in damn square it is only a short walk from the train station which makes it easily accessible from the airport.
- Due to the location it can be noisy during the day and at night time, we stayed on the third floor at the front of the hotel and could hear cheering from damn square during the day and people on the street during the night. The hotel needs to be modernised, the room was clean except for stains on the chairs in the room, but the overall observation would be that the room decor was very dated and the bathroom felt like a hospital batroom.
Marit Nyrud Great! We are coming back!
9.2
+ The very best service at the concierge desk! Please say thank you to mr Blum(?)
Mircea Great place for a weekend in Amsterdam .

- no help with luggage upon arrival
Kheng My stay at the Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam
6.0
+ Walking distance to the Central Station, the shopping belt and the historical parts of Amsterdam. Good restaurants in the neighborhood. Good connection by train to the airport and elsewhere. Staff are generally helpful.
- Some rooms are not properly cleaned (especially the bathroom). Some tiles are stained or chipped. Quite unsightly for a hotel in this category. Some front desk staff do not know the computer systems well especially the NH World Loyalty card. I only discovered In July 2010 that some of my visits at the hotel had not been updated in the system. Nobody had told me when I settled my bills to redeem my points. As a result, I was unable to redeem my loyalty points points before they expired. ( I do not have an overview of my points.) The system was often not updated when the staff removed some items in the fridge to make room for my personal items. As a result, I was often billed for mini-bar items which have to be rectified. This can be quite irritating.
SIMON Laure Wonderful hotel in amsterdam

Hazim Al-Karaki Excellent but needs more flexiblity
8.4
+ Good service, excellent comfort, hygiene and location.
- - Reception desk refuses to give change for Euro 500 bill asking me to go to bank. - Refusal to extend check out time from 12 noon to 13:00 hh unless you pay Euro 30 which is not the practice in all hotels I stayed in before.
Catherine McDonald A taste of luxury in Amsterdam

+ Convienient
- Our rooms were not available when we arrived, and in fact the reception said there was only 1 room booked when we had booked 4 rooms. They then disputed our booking, but we clearly had the evidence of booking 4 rooms. Then they upgraded us to a @remote part' of the hotel, not in the main building, and one of the rooms we were allocated was already occupied, so int he end we only got 3 rooms !! Then on check out they tried to charge us for upgrades !!! - This was totally appalling and unacceptable.

4.4
+ the size was excellent.
- The toilet seat was broken. Getting the apartment was not a benefit if we were not prepared for an apartment. The front desk offered a restraunt that was closed on
Harley Cameron Classy Hotel
9.2
+ Breakfast room and Buffet were incredible. Enjoyed our stay immensely.
Eva Ujvarine Kaldi Excellent weekend in Amsterdam
8.4
+ At the reception the colleagues were allways kind
- wifi at rooms would be useful, I missed the wellness, spa part of the hotel. The minibar was kidding us, we took out some peaces (just to have a look, feor example the ring for the bycicle), and only after read the information of he operation of it. It was a little bit unpleasant. Our flight left only in the late afternoon, and it was dificult to leave the room at 12, I do not understand, why only on Sunday do you have free late check out possibility.
Pirjo-Liisa Rauhala Location great, the mattress could be better
7.8
+ Location
- Deluxe room was not so deluxe as I expected. Compared to Finnish deluxe hotel rooms and also considering the price of the room, I was a little dissappointed. F. eg. it would be nice if there would be another, thin mattress on the thick mattress. That would be more hygienic and comfortable than to sleep on a sheet. You could feel the strings of the mattress in your back and the mattress felt sticky.
Matthew Graham RUBBISH WIFI
6.6
+ Comfortable room. Staff charming and helpful - but overworked.
- Noisy aircon - noisy if window open as well. WiFi arrangements are an absolute dog. Useless free service and very overpriced paid service. Other hotels nearby offer free WiFi to a high standard. Breakfast overpriced and not all that special.

Michael Wesley Excellent hotel in great location

+ Good staff, great location and well priced. Overall it was an enjoyable stay and we will be returning.
- Can't really think of any. I suppose at busy times, the reception can be chaotic but that is to be expected.

Terrence Lovely, but not sure if it's a 5 star
8.4
+ After several poor experiences with NH Hotels throughout Europe (and several complaints to their head office) I was upgraded to a suite.
- Very poor and disorganized check in/out process. Waited 20 minutes to check in and there were only two people ahead of me. The front desk staff don't manage the queue at all and allow people to just walk up and jump the queue and get served. This happened three times while I was waiting.
paul kenny Brilliant but expensive
8.4
+ great location, very professional friendly staff. hygeniec brilliant building
- expensive
Juha Vainikka Lovely staff and hotel.

+ When staying in Amsterdam, I hope to be in Krasnapolski. I have been first time there in early 80´s

+ I tried to stay in this hotel, just wants to know about the services. I have anticipated that the case similar to my wive could happen again to me. But I found the receptionist were nice and the service was good.
- My wife have stayed in this hotel on 1-5 April 2010. After 1 day she was "kicked out" by reception staff to move to Barbizon hotel. After long argument, she can stay at Krasnapolsky untul 5 April. This was strange as the hotel tried to move their guest to other hotel without any reason at all.
John Great location

+ Great location, great rooms, have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions
Richard Austin Best Dam Hotel.
7.4
+ Fantastic location and view of Dam Sq. Bar and portering staff were excellent. Reception helpful. Breakfast in the wintergarden was wonderful though staff rushed to close. Business facilities excellent.
- 'Double' bed was two singles pushed together.
Matteo Cogliatti Very comfortable and well located.
9.0
+ Staff is very helpful and friendly. Breakfast in the wintergarden is great!
- Large congress groups gives a busy touch. A bit more of the-grand-hotel-touch would be nice.
chris bluer Excellent
9.2
+ My wife and I both enjoyed our stay at the Krasnapolsky Hotel Amsterdam. It is a very friendly hotel in a great location. Sven at reception was excellent and very helpful, and we would recommend the hotel to all our friends.
- The food was expensive.
Amanda Taylor Location great, everything else just okay.
7.0
+ Location, location, location. Everything you need is there, it's just not very sexy or luxurious.
- Mini bars that don't let you put your own water or Diet Coke in without charging you for simply moving a bottle you don't consume really irritate me. This usually happens in cheaper and lower grade hotels than yours.
Jeremy Stein Mr

+ The receptionist Lisa is the most beautiful girl I saw all weekend
- Room was small and no door on bathroom
Sheila Hollingsworth Fantastic!
10
+ Fantastic stay in a beautiful hotel, for a fraction of the 'standard' price! Reception staff were very polite, welcoming, helpful... In fact, all the staff were friendly... Great location too!!

7.6
+ Bedroom very pleasant. Winter Garden breakfast room architecturally spectacular, though the food somewhat standard. Reflet restaurant good.
- Extraordinarily high prices for laundry. Internet service not included.
tom versteeg Great location, dated rooms!
6.2
+ location, location, location!!!
- standard rooms are very dated, doublebed is too small
Anonymous Excellent location, otherwise room for improvement
7.4
+ Excellent location
- The hotel needs to be refurbished, also handling of consecutive reservations should be improved
Mark Attree
7.4
+ the winter garden is lovely for breakfast, bar staff are excellent
- check in particularly seems to take a long time, and its mostly the computer system rather than the staff. I have stayed twice now and there has on both occasions also been a disagreement going on with a customer while I was checking in. More staff needed.
SIMON BLACK Wallowing in its own reputation
5.6
+ The location
- Price is 5 star, service is 2 star. The attitude of the staff is "take it or leave it"
Matthew Douglass-Bull Not really 5 star more like 3 and should be priced like it!
7.6
+ Handy for Dam Sq/RLD. Looks nice from outside. Large room. Lotsa free toiletries.
- lengthy checkin, some cr*p about 100 Euro "deposit" (never heard that rubbish at any other hotels in AMS/NL!) Only stayed here cos I got a deal, and would be livid if I payed full price cos its no better than most 3 star hotels in area. Customer service was poor and room was drab
Igor Panshensky Excellent choice for comfortable stay in central Amsterdam
8.8
+ Excellent central location, spacious and comfortable rooms
- all restaurants were closed on Sunday when I was there
Raymond Very nice hotel
10
+ This is the second time I stayed in this hotel and am continued to be impressed by this hotel. Yes, it is expensive even after the online booking discount but given the fantastic location and its amenities, it is worthwhile. With the exception of the couple of points (relatively minor) mentioned below about the reception desk and related services, everything else is outstanding.
- When I tried to check in on Sat. around noon, the reception desk area was like a zoo, full of people. I had to wait for about 20 minutes, then there was hesitation with the young lady receptionist. Finally, a young man came over and said curtly "The check in time is 3 pm; all rooms are being cleaned. You'll have to come back at 3 pm." I asked for a Manager and this very nice lady came out; what we eventually did was that I paid extra to upgrade to a larger and better room facing the Dam Plaza and I was able to check in right away. It seems to me that young man could have been trained to be more helpful in a classy hotel like this one. It was a good thing that I asked for a copy of the bill to review the night before I checked out. The major part of my room was prepaid and they made a mistake of charging me the room again in addition to the upgrade charge. The young ladies were very helpful to correct the mistakes.
Andre Heilmann Good 3 stars. 5 stars? No way!
5.8
+ Location
- - Bathroom was incredibly old fashion - The room didn't match the price at all - Breakfast is very expensive - Staff was not really friendly - Overall I would describe the hotel having a good 3-star standard. 5-stars? No way!
Kerin Mates Convenient hotel with friendly staff
8.6
+ The hotel was central, staff were very pleasant and friendly and the food in the lounge area was very good.
- Twin beds
