- The bathroom
Peter Bengtson Cheap & good location but small rooms.
5.2
+ Very cheap for this location. Ample but simple breakfast. Endless coffee, juice, toast, muesli etc plus some tomato, cheese, cucumber, ham.
- Security. The safe in the room is a joke. I could bearly open it with the key but I could have broken into it with a chopstick. There was a mouse somewhere in the room. Very small room. TV was broken.

+ Breakfast is good for the price. Hotel is clean.
- You can hear everything through the walls. No elevator. Beds are noisy.
Mark Reynolds Provides very good value for money for a weekend trip with mates
7.0
+ Well located next to various tram lines, only a short travel from the tourist attractions. Good value for money. Generally very clean. Breakfast basic but adequate.
- Bathroom provided very little privacy with only a screen door and no shower curtain. Although bedding was clean it just seemed unpleasant. Beds quite narrow.
Anonymous A bad choice
3.8
+ It is very close to the city centre and museums
- Rooms are too small; no space to put your clothes and suitcase. Bed clothes, duvet and pillows need to be changed: they are dirty and old. The people in reception are not very friendly. There isn't a hall or bar to wait. No lift.I wouldn't call it a hotel but an expensive hostel. I've seen better HI youth hostels than this 'hotel'. We didn't like our stay. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Look for something nicer, friendlier and clean.
MichyHell Pefect 4 travellers on a budget!
6.4
+ Good for travellers on a budget - this hotel has received some negative feedback which in our opinion is unjustifed. Breakfast was included - a real help. A Maoz falafel house on the corner - excellent!
- This hotel has got thin walls!
Helle Nielsen Informal, friendly athmosphere in tiny hotel in great location
7.8
+ Very informal and pleasant athmosphere, friendly staff! Tiny rooms, but all you need for a city visit. Situated close to the colourfull lively Albert Cuip Market, plenty of restaurants and cafees, and in walking distance to Concerthalls and Museums. Close to tram/bus/metro lines to city center etc.
- Could gain from a little extra cleaning, although basics were OK. Miss a coffee/tea machine/automate next to the cold drinks/sweets automate.
M & A Cosy little hotel in the charming The Pijp area
7.0
+ We can absolutely recommend Max hotel as a small, cosy hotel in a very nice location close to the second hand market and the charming Pijp area. Due to the low price we didn't expect so high of a standard but got very positive surprised when we arrived at the hotel. There were towels, linnen, tv, cleaning, hair dryer, safety box and breakfast included in the cheap price for the room. We had 2 good nights sleep without any noises or disturbanse.
- Maybe the shower wasn't so fresh.. but it depends on what you expect.
Gregory A nice hotel for a short stay
6.8
+ Excellent location near to Heineken, Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum. You can easily get to the center of the city by Tram #4 or by feet. Friendly and helpful receptionists. We managed to rich a free WiFi Internet from the room.
- Not too quiet, especially if your window goes to the street (a supermarket nearby starts reloading at 7:00 or so). You can perfectly hear your neighbors as well. Our double room was very tight, no bath, the shower was almost above the toilet sink. Perhaps, it's the same for the most hotels in historical part of Amsterdam.
Maxime Moreaud Not recommended, dirty and noisy.
4.2
+ Location. Breakest simple but not expensive
- Dirty, noisy. Smell cigarettes in non smoking room.
Ronald West Small but fine
8.2
+ Good location. The room layout was efficient and comfortable. Room was very clean.
- Room was very small, but we had been alerted.

- Bad isolation between rooms(you listen to the others talking) and old mattress.

7.8
+ location, proximity Van Gogh museum
- hygiene
Anita Heleta Dissapointing!
3.4
+ It was easy to get around. Trams come often.
- Hygiene was not good. After checking in (waiting 2hrs for the room to be cleaned) our in-room facilities were full of hair and dirt! The in-room facilities looked like an attachment in the room, it was very strange, the toilet was in one corner and the shower in the other with no separation wall....the result was if you had a shower no one after you could use the toilet as it was all flooded. There was no linen on one of the beds. We were on the 4th floor with no lift it was hard work getting up and down every day. The internet was too expensive 5hrs 25 euro!! Very poor hotel, very dissapointed...on the bright side the staff were trying to facilitate us the best they could! but prevention is better than cure!
Kath Great location and very comfy bed.
8.2
+ Great help and info at the front desk, loved the beds and the room was heated well.
- Breakfast was very average, but there is a shopping centre right accross the street.

+ People who work in this hotel are very welcoming. We met four our five persons and all of them were very nice. The breakfast was fine.
- The room was very small and the location is a little bit far from the historic center (30 minutes walk).
Victor Moquist Hotel Max is most recommendable.
8.8
+ Max is perfect for young people who want to explore Ams cheap. The rooms have what you need, a bed, shower, toilet and everything is mostly new. Breakfast is included which saves you a meal. The employees are really nice people who'll help you find the nicest places in Ams. You really get something for your money. Hotel Max is most recommendable.
- The breakfast was served a bit early considering it's a youth hotel.

+ excellent hostel, near the city center (15 minutes on foot), clean and comfortable, good and rich breakfast, my friend and I felt like staying home!
- not so close to the rail station, but near to the bus stop, our room was quite small.

5.8
+ Friendly staff
- Small rooms, inc a small combined wc & shower, but adequate though ( current uk exchange rate making this hotel more expensive )
Maria Elisa Pimenta
7.4
+ The service was really good, the front desk guy was really healpfull and nice. The breakfast was also really good.
- The bathroom is awful, cause the shower and the toilet are like almost together, therefore a shower can be really messy im such bathroom.
Anonymous
6.4
+ good beds
- the room are very small for two persons. Only one person can walk in and out... The toilet was too small to sit on. Breakfast was terrible. Only bread and cheese that obviously came form the cheap supermarket acros the street. Nobody speaks dutch, only english (and spanish, rumanian etc)

+ cosy and stylish hotel good breakfast (lacking only vegetables) smiling staff
- small room small toilet, could not close the bathroom door when sitting on the toilet seat price of the internet

4.8
+ Not far from a tram stop Nice walk up the river into the main central area
- No toilet roll replaced - had to ask for it Rooms exceptionally small - only 1 person could be up & about at the same time as there wasn't enough room for 2 of you to be moving about at the same time! Quite expensive for what you got Didn't really want to spend any more time than we had to in the hotel - no lounge communal lounge area or bar

8.2
+ Helpfull reception, nice bed, nice hot shower
- Strange layout of shower-toilet, scarce breakfast if you are on the late side
Nicolas B.
7.6
+ the design of the room, the organisation of the space were good. The bed was really pleasant to sleep in.
- The bed hasn't been made up every morning. The choice of marmelades is a bit poor(2 different tastes)

5.4
+ Much information about touring the city and attractions was avaialble. Safe key, TV remote and door card were all put in a convenient portable box.
- Bed linen laundry needs serious attention. The bottom sheet smelled of mildew and a couple of end-of-hall closets were filled with musty duvets. This raised hygiene concerns for me.

7.4
+ really friendly staff, very helpful lots of maps/flyers available
- tended to feel like a bit of a trek from the centre

+ Since accomodation prices are relatively high in Amsterdam it is great that Hotel Max offers satisfactory lodging at moderate price. Service during the breakfast was good and friendly.
- Our room was neat but the public toilet next to the reception was dirty. There was pretty much noise and banging of doors during night time. As Scandinavians we would have appreciated rye bread at breakfast.
Luca
7.0
+ abundant breakfast. nice people at the reception.
- smell of mildew in bath. steep scales if you have heavy luggage.
Anna
8.4
+ The hotel was much better than expected at a very reasonable price. It was a little bit of a walk into the main city centre but was a quiet, safe area and in Amsterdam you are never far from anywhere. We were helped when we had no toilet paper and the shower and bathroom facilites were great as they were our own private. Also good TV! I strongly reccommend to young budget travellers

8.6
+ Hotel Max was an adorable little hotel with nicely decorated rooms with rather updated furnishings. The beds were comfortable, the shower had nice water pressure, we were regularly given clean towels. We were also pleasantly surprised by the breakfast, as it provided toast, ham, cheese, cereal, OJ, coffee and tea. The location was great too, and the neighborhood was quite. It was also near a bus line that went straight into the center of town and a large outdoor market that ran everyday except sunday. That was a great advantage, and I really enjoyed staying here.
- The only oddities were the toilet being fairly much in the shower, and the rooms being quite small. However, the ceilings were high so it didn't feel claustrophobic. Also, the wireless internet rates were quite steep, but we just went down the street to a cheaper internet cafe.
Kristina
9.0
+ Very clean for the price, good location
- staircase and the size of the room, I don't think it's suitable for older people or families with children but for younger couples or friends it's a great place because it's cheap

7.6
+ Good, quiet location right by the Albert Cuypstraat street market. Short walk to museums etc. Good value for money, small but comfortable room, good shower (always warm water)!
- Room wasn't cleaned properly - a little bit of hair, dust and sand on the floors and bathroom.
