Great magic place and location; bad service.
  • + The location, the history and charme of the building, comfort of the bed.The service is not unfortunately that of a luxury hotel: the place is magic, but we notice bad notes on the service; for example, we wrote to the hotel before living to ask for a early check in; the answer was no clear about the policy of the hotel, in which you have only the guarantee to check in at 3.00 pm; and maybe if you are lucky you can obtain an early check in. Result? We arrived at 9 and we remained clearly
  • disappointed to know that nobody could say us when we could enter in our room; the guy at the reception was extremely cold and treat us as a "number" without trying to solve our problem. In the mail hotel have to be extremely clear in his policy concerning check in; big mistake. Second, one night, at 11pm we came back in the hotel and ask to the bar a coffee: "You have to go in the espresso bar", the answer, no smiling, very unpolite; Result? The espresso bar was closed..
  • * my tip we asked him a help where to drin k a simple coffee, say" I don't know". We were really disappointed...For the breakfast there was a long long waiting to seat....Concluding: great location, great place, but the service is really not that of a luxury hotel and it's a pity...First of all "Smile" is for free and we think that in a luxury hotel (as we found in many hotels around the world) everyone have to help you and solve your problem in any moment; everyone have to let

  • Service lacked - no coffee/hot water maker in room; no turn down service; some hotel staff not so great

Perfection with some exeptions
  • + Excellent cleaning and maintenance of the room. Quick luggage handling. Very positive personnel in the bar.
  • Impression of the concierge was not positive (not service minded and nochalant approach). Breakfast bad: long waiting before being seated. Finally appointed not cleaned tables (there was a full room not used). Same procedure for a full week. Very seldom Vollkoren bread available. Cheese slices impossible to separate without destroying each slice.

What's that smell?
  • + Friendly, courteous staff.
  • Dirty rooms. Room we were checked into smelled of damp mildew. There was what appeared to be urine (yellowish, foul smelling liquid) puddled on the lamp in the room. The ceiling was falling apart, rotting at the seams and dropping bits of rust colored mold on the floor. There was dried blood on the handtowel (or feces) and a spattering of coffee. All of this in our "executive" room.

Diana the waitress
  • + I would particularly like to congratulate Diana, the waitress in the restaurant who served us for two days at both breakfast and lunch times. She was extremely friendly, polite and efficient. A first class ambassador for the hotel.
  • I requested a room overlooking the canal but didnt get one. The room above our room must have had woodenfloors or creaky floorboards and I heard every steo overhead.

Nice, tidy, friendly and good location
  • Why not chance of making a cup of coffee in your own room? I had to go to restaurant and wait for about 10 minutes when I just wanted a cup of coffee...

  • + The big plus of Pulitzer is its location on the canals and the atmosphere rended by its architectural concept of Amsterdam ancient houses around a nice central garden. The staff is also charming, both at reception desk, as well in the coffee shop for breakfast. The breakfast is absolutly perfect in quality and atmosphere in those charming dining rooms.
  • Althoug we had reserved a superior room, for which we accepted an extra daily 50¤ for the canal vew, we expected a rather larger room, with a more characteristic dutch furniture, as shown on the web site. To find the room direction is not very easy during the first 2 days, 278 B, after 3 days we got used to it. We would have liked more information upon arrival about boat cruise from the hotel front door.

  • + Good Location
  • Very small room and bathroom. Very standard service not at the level of the hotel pretentions. Poor price/quality. For that price, I was at much higher upper class hotels.

  • (Other)
  • + Great location; excellent service from the bell desk regarding automobile, luggage handling, directions, et al. Very good bar and breakfast service.
  • Concierge was ill-informed about his own museum recommendations, gave lousy advice about restaurants, was often exhibiting "superior attitude" when friendliness was more appropriate. Front desk was sometimes unpleasant.

  • (Older couples)
  • + The evening concert was a bonus however we had not been told of it when we booked
  • The downside was that both nights we stayed and were located overlooking the canal, they were either erecting scaffolding for the stage or dismantling it. Consequently we had little sleep and it did detract from our stay. This happens once a year and gusests overlooking the canal should be warned about it. Secondly when we arrived we had two arguments with staff. Firstly we knew we had paid for breakfast and they denied this, secondly we were put in an ordinary room and not the executive room I'd paid for. We resolved both matters, but shouldn't have had to waste an hour so doing.

  • + Your restaurant is excellent.
  • We arrived at noon after a 10 hour flight. We were told our room would not be avaiable till 3.00pm. We walked to the van Gogh:returned at 3.45pm. The room was still not available. Eventually we got access at 4.15pm.

  • + Everyone at the hotel is very aware of their high standards for guest comfort-- this was one of the best places I have stayed. Housekeeping was invisibile and flawless, F & B was considerate and professional, concierge and doormen perfect.

  • (Other)
  • The staff at the front desk were adequate, however, the front door staff never even spoke to us upon arrival initially, or at any other time entering and leaving the hotel. We arrived via cab and they did not greet us or acknowledge us or attempt to help with luggage. The concierge was arrogant and unhelpful. (gentleman) We arrived at 1430, and yes, while rooms are not available until 1500, the desk said we could get into a room canal view for upgrade of 30 euros or otherwise wait until 1500, kind of tacky in my view. The entire staff seemed to have an attitude that they were better than everyone else. I would not return nor recommend. Disappointing for the price.

  • + The Pulitzer is big American business hotel which takes up several canalside houses. Service is decent, but you're paying for it. All you'll see is the guy at the check in anyway. The moment you order food or eat anything out of the fridge, you'll be paying through the nose. Rooms are quiet and clean but nothing special. Even using the internet in the lobby costs. The only real plus points here are the location and the peace of mind that staying in such a huge hotel brings. Wouldn't hurry back. Much prefer the Toren.

  • (Families with older children)
  • + Fantastic location and the best canal tour possible on the hotel's own boat.
  • We stayed at the back of the hotel where the rooms are not as impressive as an earlier stay when I had been at the front of the hotel - the rooms seemed smaller and less well appointed - I will specify that I stay in rooms at the front of the hotel in future.

  • + very attentive and polite staff. - almost a little too attentive- apples delivered to our ddor, turn down service and chocolates..the bed was really comfortable and the bathrrom with the rainshower shower head was great. the location was perfect- next to boutiques and restaurants, not far from cbd. the foyer and bar were beautiful
  • compared to the picture on the internet which showed a larger than average room the room was actually a very standard size misleading from the pictures- very lovely but not amazing. there were some deals for suites in other hotels which were the same money and might have been better value

  • (Older couples)
  • + Excellent location, friendly staff
  • Ground floor room too noisy at night - we were woken at least 3-4 times early in the morning, the worst being about 3.30am. The TV and Mini Bar in the room take up far too much space and make the room cramped.

  • + The complimentary items in the room. I mentioned in the plus points that it`s the little things that matter in this sort of hotel. The staff were very good and friendly without exception. The hotel was large but didn`t feel busy. The area the hotel was in was very nice.
  • I booked a double room but the `double` bed was two singles pushed together. They slid apart if you lay near the middle. The breakfast (on sunday) was served a until a lot later than usual. The food was warm but not hot which was bad. It would have been excellent if it was hot and fresh. I noticed these were many public areas in the hotel which were dusty. A bit more attention should be taken in this area. The bath was not properly sealed around the edges. I only mention the negative points because the hotel professes to be so good. It would be acceptable (and expected) if the hotel was of a lower class It`s the little things that matter in a high class hotel.

  • + A Helpful staff B Excellent restaurant, cafe & bar C Good gym facilities D Pleasing location
  • On Thursday 19th October, the day before our departure, I notified the Concierge of our flight arrangements and requested a pick up from Connexions shuttle service. A pick-up was duly arranged for 8.07am Friday. We were outside at 8.00am sharp. We were never told that pick-up times can be varied. In fact our pick-up had left some 17 minutes earlier. We incurred a 50Euro taxi fare due to poor advice from the Concierge. We consider that the hotel should comment on this.

  • We were given a smoking room, which was unfortunate as it smelt quite badly of smoke. However this did not spoil our time at the hotel.

  • (Families with young children)
  • + The location was fine.
  • Though the hotel was very elegant, we were very dissappointed in the experience. There were a few problems. We left the hotel at 3:30 or so and didn't return until nearly 9; the bed still wasn't there and I had to begin again with the negotiations to get one. In addition, there was a party of children on the floor above us who were creating a TON of noise...clearly they were jumping from the beds to the floor. It took me about 5 phone calls to get someone to take me seriously and I finally (at about 10:30 p.m.) had to ask the lady to come to the room to listen for herself; once she did, well she went upstairs and dealt with the problem. The other issue was that when we arrived at the hotel, it was raining a lot. When we asked for umbrellas, the concierge just shook his head and said...no more umbrellas. Sorry. So, all in all, for the price -- it wasn't worth it. If you aren't going to get excellent service you might as well pay less and stay somewhere where you don't expect quiet, the bed you reserved, or an umbrella at the front desk. Thanks for asking.
