Reviews

The following independent reviews were entered by guests after their stay at the hotel.

Anonymous Basic and Noisy
6.0
+ Nice staff on front desk, and reception area is well-presented. Location was good for me as it was only a 20 min walk to where I needed to be.
- Room was very basic. I was in the room beneath reception and could hear people thumping about all night, which kept me awake. The curtains in the room left a good five or six inches of the bottom of the window uncovered, meaning that light streamed in all night, making it even more difficult to sleep and I felt uncomfortable getting undressed. A poor night's sleep was not ideal as I had to deliver a presentation the next day. I wouldn't stay here again.
Anonymous Decent hotel for weekend break.
5.8
+ Location
- Noise in and outside hotel, steep stairs, no lift.
Anonymous Central and friendly but over-priced and shabby
7.2
+ Clean, staff friendly, very good location
- A child sized single bed; no breakfast even though I paid €138 for 2 nights; an iron but no ironing board, a window that didn't close properly so I head all the street noise and a man drilling the wall next to my window at 07.30 AM so sleeping in was not possible (I wasn't offered a discount for this). inconvenience).
Anonymous Friendly Staff
7.2
+ Great location for taking in the local sites and activities. Hotel faces the canel. Close to public transportation.
- Older budget hotel so you get no amenities.
Anonymous Stay Away
3.6
+ central location
- no wifi in my room ("sometimes it doesn't reach those rooms"), no towels, extra charge if you pay with a credit card, no breakfast (and a bad attitude) although I arrived on time, poor management, not enough workers for keeping the place running smoothly.

+ the service was amazing, every persone there was really nice and gave us all the help we needed.
- the elevature didnt work end it was really dificult to go up and down to the 4th floor every time.
Debora Kozak This charming, affordable hotel is in an excellent location...
9.0
+ My single room (101) was rather small, but sufficient for 1 person. I was there with my son and 2 of his friends who had the triple room right next door (102), which was very convenient for me. I had a great view of the canal. The hotel has so many charming details, i.e. stained glass, inlaid tile entrance, bay windows, a steep winding, wooden staircase and banister, etc, etc. Plus the location is excellent since you can walk to just about everything. It's also an easy bus ride direct to/from the airport, or a choice of 3 trams that go directly to the main train station. Breakfast consisted of various breads (you could toast), different jams, honey, sliced cheese & ham, orange & apple juice, brewed coffee, or a coffee specialty from their cappucino machine.
- The lift was out of order, as well as the complimentary wireless internet. There was construction going on, but they seemed to be coming to an end of it. Still, it woke you up at 7:30 in the morning when the workers were getting started. The shared toilet/shower on the 1st. floor had a tiny sink that had a shelf directly above it, which made it impossible to put your head over it while washing your face or brushing your teeth.

+ Room 102 (triple room) was very spacious (toilet and shower included) with an excellent view of the canal with a bay window included. It was a very bright room. This was my son's room with 2 of his friends. My room was right next door (rm 101--no toilet or shower) which was very convenient. I loved all the details of the entire hotel, i.e. stained glass, narrow winding wooden steps and banister, inlaid tile floor entrance, etc. It all added to the charm of the hotel. Breakfast consisted of various breads (could toast it), jams, honey, cheese and ham with orange & apple juice & coffee. The coffee was brewed, but they also had a capuccino machine. The location was excellent, as one could walk to everything.
- There was construction going on, but they seemed to be coming to the end of it. You would hear the workers getting started at 7:30 in the morning. The wireless internet which was suppose to be available, was not working. The shared shower/toilet on the 1st. floor had a tiny sink with a shelf right above the sink, which made it impossible to put your head over it while washing your face or brushing your teeth.

+ Very good location in the city. Very clean.
- Reparations in the morning, not too great... Didn't warned us... No elevator either. They sey it's written somewhere when you visit the site. I guess it's true, but I never saw it.
Tony D I enjoy the hotel and would stay here in the future.
8.2
+ Proximity to public transport
- I was not notified that the elevator was Out Of Service. This was inconvenient caring my bag to the 4th floor. My room door did not lock when I was not in the room; I was able to open door with out key card.
Paul Hradek A good convenient hotel for the future
6.2
+ Convenient - good location
- Building works were going on outside the room (outside) and the room smelt a bit of damp to start with.
Anonymous Buena opción para pragmáticos
7.2
Nil Kutluk Perfect location, tiny room but worth the price
8.0
+ friendly staff, perfect location (1 min. walk to Leidzepleis and the bus/tram stops) , clean room and shared facilities, nice view of the canal. Very suitable if you're going to spend only one night to sleep. worth the price.
- tiny room. shared facilities (for the room that I've hired). small shower and only on the 1st floor. no place to easily get dressed up again.

Ayelet R Good for budget travelling
6.8
+ great location, friendly atmosphere, good value for money.
- service is not very proffessional, and they don't really clean the rooms during the stay. we had to ask for clean towels every time.
Alvarez Begoña Buena relación calidad-precio y centrico
7.6
+ Localización, centrico y al lado de la parada del tranvia. Para gente que no busca lujo, sino limpieza y buen precio Buena relación calidad-precio Reformado Bonitas vistas al canal desde la sala del desayuno
- No tiene aspectos negativos
Anonymous The place to stay!
9.4
+ Good value for money! Nice room, helpful staff, excellent location.
- Internet connection would be needed nowadays, also at least simple breakfast included in these prices would be better service. If these were available, would be perfect.
Eveliina Lempiäinen An affordable hotel for young people
7.6
+ Quite cheap and quiet hotel, except for the noise coming from the construction site nearby. Personnel very friendly and nice.
- No air-conditioning or maybe it was broken, dunno.
P. Glennon Great people, clean room, single person in double and priced right.
6.0
+ Location - close to museums, casino, entertainment district, good selection of resaturants close by with avg prices for city. Close to tram and bus stops going to the rest of city.
- Location - tends to be noisy both external and internal
HAYDN ROBINSON Very very disappointing... refund or legal action?
4.2
+ The location was good and it was a welcome break after working 18 hour days six days a week for the past month.
- Extremely disappointed by the fact that the room was next to a building site, we were woken up every morning at 7am, this was obviously not as advertised and after complaining several times nothing was done. The bedside lights also did not work which we asked to be fixed several times also, neither of these issues were resolved after persistently complaining. The room was falsely advertised, which completely ruined the holiday. Under the sales of goods act, a goods or service must be sold as advertised, as a 7am wake up from the builders was not advertised, we are entitled to a full refund which we will be perusing.
Anonymous Nice hotel, poor service
7.8
+ very nice hotel in a great spot
- this booking didn't seem to go through - the hotel had no reservation for us, but we were still able to get a room (for 10 euros more)
MARIANTHI-ASIMINA Quite happy with my stay there :)

+ good price, ideal location
- thin wall, stained carpet, shower curtain too short.
Anonymous Great hotel for the price - no problems!!!
9.2
+ Great location - friendly staff, good size rooms
- Walls are a bit thin, can be a little noisy. Take ear plugs / sleeping tablets!
D. Disappointment
6.2
+ It is the center
- I booked an extra night and the deskclerk said it was confirmed, but I was trown out when new personel appeared, the booking couldn;t be found in the computer. I had to drive around town to find another hotel. I was very disappointed and acktually very angry because the deskclerk assured me it the room was free for another night. Also I was in a room with a lot of noise (builders next to me) and it took hours to check in because the room wasn't ready etc.etc. I am disappointed in your way of doing bussiness.
Bryan Would not recommend The Quentin Hotel Amsterdam
5.6
+ Service was rather helpful, for the most part. Location is convenient.
- A bit noisy. There was a cigarette in a cup on the window sill when I checked in the first night. Phone didn't work properly. Towels were removed but not replaced one day and I had to ask for new towels at the front desk and only received one towel replacement.
Siobhan Hynd Perfect hotel for the Leidsplein pubs and restaurants.
9.4
+ We had an excellent long weekend - room was comfortable and clean and hotel is perfectly located next the Leidsplein. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great price and great base for exploring Amsterdam - top marks all round.
- No minus points.
Maria Nice, clean hotel with good location
7.4
+ Location, nice small, but clean room. Canal view. Very fair price.
- Nothing really
Giorgos B A special reception
7.4
+ Near the square Leidseplein (200m).
- 1. A terrible reception. When we arrive the girl at the reception doesn't even see goodbey, and keeps talking which her friend by phone. 2. Not possible to leave your luggage in a luggageroom. They advise you to go to the central station for €2 a hour. 3. Not possible to make outgoing telephone calls.
rentia Geldenhuys Bad to worst

- Hotel does not give good image price very high hotel old carpets were dirty shower terible whole floor under water want diposit for remote and key bad impresion
Clayton Hunte YOU GUYS ROCK!
8.8
+ You guys have a very nice hotel in a perfect location for 1st time visitors and frequent ones. Staff was very helpful espeically Walt and Olga. Keep up the good work and I will be back next year.
- The only minus point is wishing guess can purchase items in your hotel with other currency. Banks there don't exchange and the currency Xchange stores rates are ridiculous. Other wise, GOOD WORK!
CARLOS ESCAJADILLO Good hotel in a very good location.
7.6
+ Great location, fine view of canals, efficient (though terse) staff, easy way to get from Schipol - with bus 197 which leaves you at Leidseplein for 10 euros round trip
- Cimplicated "lost items" policy. I may have left a package there but 10 days later I still could not get a definite answer to "have you foubd a package?" Apparently lost and found items are sent to a storehouse elsewhere but no register is kept at hotel
Alessandro Rossin NEVER AGAIN Quentin Hotel
3.8
+ Location, the only one.
- Double Room too small. Low quality service. Our room wasn't cleaned for all the stay, towels not changed, open shower. Dangerous stairs at the entrance. The receptionist asked for the payment immediately, before showing the room. They charge 5% additional fee when paying by credit card without any previous announcement. Rooftop window without curtain. The hotel hasn't got the luggage room.
colin mitchell Not bad

Anonymous As bad as it gets?
3.0
+ Always nice to come to Amsterdam
- No locker-room at arrival 3 hours before checkin. When inquiring about this saying that there was a locker-room last time I was there the receptionist answered: Do you think I am lying! No heating in the first room. Smoke from the chimney coming in through the window Remote control for TV did not work in either of the rooms I got and was never fixed during my four day stay. Had to change hotel because of the heating problem. Was promised (so it sounded on two occasions) room for two extra days but did not get it, and had to pay too much for a new room 31.12. The Quintin receptionist could not help us to find a new room (by owner policy!) Had an eye infection but the receptionist did not help me to find a doctor

4.6
+ central, close to all attractions, very cheap
- no room service, no bottled water, low hygiene, very uncomfortable room
Wade Carter Good place to say in amsterdam
8.0
+ location,lift, service crew good,price
- small bathrooms,
DURVILLE Good price/quality/location compromise, but unfriendly receptionist
6.2
+ Very good location
- We have encountered an understanding problem about payment procedure. It was at the begining my fault, because, it's perfectly explained in the booking response mail. But, arriving at the hotel, the receptionist has lost her calm, when I've said her I've payed by internet. Ok, it was a mistake. But I think, there is a commercial attitude to keep, in this kind of situation. We haven't feel, we was welcomed in Amsterdam.
Deezy Poor.. poor service.
3.8
+ Location.
- There was no room available, supposedly because there was a plumbing problem in my room. Sent me to a sister hotel where they offered me a 'room off the patio area'. Room was actually a shed off the main building. This shed was damp, with an electric space heater and a leaking toilet. I refused! After a lengthy, sometimes argumentitive conversation with the often very rude receptionist, and a few phone calls on the receptionist part, I was given a room on the second floor. This is a smoke free hotel, but my room smelt like it was smoking central for the previous occupants.
Feliks Ianovskyi Mouse prefers to live in a very good place
5.2
+ Location Payment on arrival
- Sometimes one can hear and even see a mouse in the room. Elevator did not work at the moment of leaving, and the stairs are very steep. A person on duty (a girl at the reception)was not polite enough - 28 Oct 2008 between 6 and 9 p.m. TV set in my room was extremly old: black and white, with one channel only, without remote control.
Anonymous Friendly and very well located hotel
7.0
+ Very well located; nice rooms
- Hygiene in the first day: trash under the bed; no washed towels on the second day; we asked for them for the third day.
M.A. Rehman Clean, perfect location, relatively cheap-but lacked customer service.
7.8
+ Very clean and hygienic .. brilliant location as it is only 2 stops away from the centre. Deco was superb and the room was perfect .. basic double room but very comfortable and clean ..
- The customer service was very non - existent. he girl who sat in reception during the day was very monotone (never smiled or said thank you or please). She was not talkative at all, and looked as though she did not want to be there.
Daniel Santilli Buy carpet, clean the drains or flood.
7.2
+ Very nice and helpful staff.
- The room was kept clean by the room service but the carpet was "grotty" to the point that I would not walk on it without shoes. How much can it cost to carpet a 6'x10' room? Also had to take shower drain apart and clean out big hair clog.YUK
catarina cruz Perfect
8.0
+ Location price/quality perfect place to spend a few days in amsterdam
- i have no complaints
Mr D Adams Large gaps under the room door(4th floor)allow mice in!
7.6
+ Extractor fan in en-suite bathroom (economy double room)
- Large gaps under the room door(4th floor)allow mice in! Hotel should consider filling the gaps even if just a metal carpet strip scrwed to the back of the door to meet the carpet- then if door then wont open due to the angle of floor, change the hinges to swing and lift type! As guests dont like mice.
