Hotel Rokin Amsterdam is situated in two monumental buildings at a central location near the 'Dam', the 'Nieuwe Kerk', the shops in the 'Kalverstraat' and the Red Light District. The modern and comfortable rooms are equipped with a private bathroom and a safe amongst other things.
The Rokin Hotel is a real family business that was opened in 1973. After a renovation in 2004 the hotel was rewarded with its current 3-star status. Two monumental 17th century buildings make up the hotel, which is situated at the Rokin in the heart of Amsterdam. Some of the characteristic elements were kept during the renovation, amongst which the wooden ceiling beams. The hotel rooms are equipped with a private shower and toilet, a tv and a safe for all your valuables. There is an elevator in the hotel as well.
From the hotel it is just a short stroll to the 'Dam', where you will find the 'Koninklijk Paleis' (royal palace), Madame Tussauds, the National Monument and the 'Nieuwe Kerk', which houses expositions on a regular basis. In the area that surrounds the 'Dam' there are numerous shops, for example in the 'Kalverstraat', the 'Nieuwendijk' and the luxurious Magna Plaza shopping centre. The Rokin Hotel is also a perfect spot if you are planning a night out, since the 'Rembrandtplein' is easy to reach on foot. At the reception you can book all kinds of fun excursions.
Food and Drinks
The hotel's basement houses the stylish breakfast room. In the morning you can enjoy a lovely breakfast here, starting from 07:30 h. On request you can have breakfast earlier, provided you notify the reception the night before. The hotel does not have its own restaurant. In the vicinity you will find numerous restaurants that are open for lunch and dinner service.
Internet
In the hotel lobby and most of the rooms you can make free use of WiFi with your laptop.

- It is very clean, Ok sized rooms and are heated, Hot water anytime was available for showering, great breakfast, overall friendly staff members and helpful. It was Ok to check in before the check in time.
- Only one staff member was rude with his attitude, though there is no need to overlook all the posetive aspects of the hotel because of this.

- Convenience And Value For Money.
- Breakfast is excellent with a good selection. Location of the hotel is about 500 yards from Dam Square which makes it ideal for shopping and/or night life.
Staff are very friendly.
- I have stayed in the hotel four times now and have found the rooms at the rear a lot quieter as you get noise from traffic and trams, also the Metro extension which is being built outside has been in construction stage for a long time but I must say it looks like its nearly completed.

- Nice but Noisy
- Very clean, room surprisingly spacious, excellent position. Excellent breakfast.
- Avoid front room as there is quite a bit of noise through the night from revellers (being so close to the centre).

- Hotel Rokin needs more style and comfort
- Service was good. Breakfast was OK
- Despite the fact that I made my reservation one month before my check-in when I arrive at the hotel the reception told me that all the rooms were occupied. I was shown a room which shocked me. It was dull, no comfort, narrow with a dirt tiny window on the ceiling. In Moscow such rooms are used for homeless people who don't pay more than EU100 per night. Only in the evening after we couldn't close the window I was proposed another room with windows and more decent atmosphere. I can't understand why they didn't give a proper room at the begining. It was interesting to hear when he promised to do something in the morning when a person at the reception in the evening on the same day did his best to meet my request for more decent room. I have stayed in many hotels abroard with three starts and this is for the first time when I was really disipointed. In general the hotel needs some style and the rooms should look more comfortable and homy.

- Location was very quiet, despite of City centre. So it was good to sleep in the night.
- The city map might be replaced by another map, which is able to give more details about the "street names" fom the centre.

- Excellent location, very central. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was lovely and had good variety.
- Rooms are outdated and stuffy, refurbishments would make a huge difference. Beds are way too soft. I booked a double room not 2single beds pushed together, this was very annoying. No athmosphere, it's more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel

- Again another excellent stay. If you read the other comments there are alot that speak of the construction. I found out that they are building a subway and it will not be completed until 2013. Don't let this discourage you from staying here.
- Narrow stairs that lead to the front office. Hard to move luggage and stroller up the stairs. I guess there are no disabilitiy laws in Europe.

- The bedroom accomodation was very good. The breakfast facilities were excellent and there was a good range of items to choose from. The bathroom was clean, with an ample supply of fresh towels etc. The hotel is near most of the main tourist attractions and is easy to get to from the main railway station.
- The lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom was a bit disappointing. Most hotels we have visited have such facilities available.

- Well situated and friendly helpful staff. Overall, a nice place to stay on business and the breakfast was excellent!
- The room had only one small heater under a window curtain with single pane glass. Even with extra blankets, it seemed to make no difference to the room temp if the windows were open or not. It was 3-7 degree's at night and definately felt like it in the room. I wonder how people will survive the winter. This problem should be addressed immediately.

- This hotel position is its point of strenght. Generally the hotel is nice, clean and the service is kind. Nice breakfast, good service (24h/24), many public transportations.
- Unfortunately we stayed in the last room available, which was the one downstairs, below the pietoon way. It was quite cold and not very confortable. On the opposite, the hotel seems to be renewed recently.

- I think the location of your hotel is great! The room was clean and the photos I saw on the web weren't not misleading.
- Unfortunately, the night manager on hand while me and my business partners were there was rude and didn't by any means make me feel as if I was guest at the hotel. When I booked the 2 person room, I did it knowing that 3 guest planed on staying their. I was unaware of the policy that only 2 people could stay in a 2 bed room. I blame that on my own ignorance assuming the policies of where I'm from where the same. However I would have felt better if someone would have explained that at check in when "all 3" of us check into the room and my credit card had been ran. Upon returning to our room around 4am the night manager refused to let me return to the room because of the policy in place. I asked to cancel my room for the rest of the week and he told me that wasn't possible and forced me to spend an extra 100 Euro for another single room. I then had to move to another Hotel for the remainder of our stay in AMS. I am a successful business owner myself and I felt that we had been taken advantage of at the time of check in being we were aloud to all 3 check into the room and proceed with our bags. If he would of allowed us to stay just for that 1 night being we returned at 4am, I would have gladly paid for an extra single room for the remainder of my stay at Hotel Rokin. Even after I purchased another room at Hotel ROE he continued to harass us when I would visit my friends at our original room. To me and my friends it was a "horrible" example of guest service and for that reason my business partners and I will never stay there again as of now.

- The breakfast was nice and fresh. The service was a little above average (eg, staff always available for help).
- The room is very small and as we were on the first floor we could hear everything on the street. Perhaps double glazed windows or thicker insulation may help. Also, there are major construction works in front of the hotel and this started just after 7am every morning. As the windows are so thin (you can hear people talking on the street as they walk past) we were woken up very early!! Also, our beds were quite uncomfortable and there were mosquitos in our room every day - even though we kept our windows closed at all times and sprayed with insect spray.
