Geertien is a cosy hotel on the waterfront. It is located in green surroundings with lovely historic villages. The renowned village Giethoorn, that is often called 'Venice of the North', lies only a stone's throw away. The vicinity offers many recreational options. The staff will gladly help you to rent a bicycle or tour boat, or recommend nice hiking, cycling or canoeing routes. An excellent restaurant and a cosy café, that breathe the atmosphere of times long gone, can be found adjacent to the hotel.
The small-scale hotel has 14 rooms, two of which are suites. The use of nice materials and colours gives the rooms a stylish touch. They are all provided with a bathroom with a shower and/or bath, television, telephone and free wireless Internet.

Breakfast is served on weekdays from 07:30 to 10:00 h. and on weekends from 08:30 to 10:30 h.
Café Restaurant Geertien was established in 1825 and used to be a meeting point for skippers and peat cutters. The atmosphere still reminds of these times. The special ambience attracts many clients to the restaurant. The kitchen staff create savoury and fresh seasonal dishes. Apart from the extensive menu the restaurant also offers many delicious whines. The restaurant is closed on Wednesdays from September through May.

Surroundings
Near Hotel Geertien Blokzijl you can find the nature reserves 'De Weerribben' and 'De Wieden'. These peat landscapes originated from the cutting of peat. Apart from water, a lot of woods and reed lands can be found here, which makes the area an excellent habitat for all kinds of bird species. The otter has been successfully reintroduced here in the year 2002. The population has grown into three generations because of the good environment and clean water.
