Description
Spaensweerd is one of the few still privately occupied historic coutry estates of the Netherlands. The owners make room for their guests with pleasure and will tell you more about the history of the villa and its surroundings with gusto. Located in the floodplains of the river IJssel, the hotel was repeatedly plagued by the river
overflowing its banks. The hotel was built in 1650 and has had many owners, such as the supreme Lord Chamberlain of Queen Wilhelmina, count of Bijlandt. In 1835 it was drastically renovated in Dutch classicist style by the paper manufacturer Pannekoek. Since 1987, the current owner has been living in the beautiful villa. All around the hotel are beautifully landscaped historic gardens, free to be visited and enjoyed by the guests.
It will be fantastic to sleep in the rooms, that are decorated with a lot of beautiful antique furniture that really suit the hotel. All rooms are on the first floor and offer a wonderful view over the gardens of Spaensweerd. Each room has a comfortable double bed and a bathroom with shower, toilet and hairdryer. There are also coffee and tea making facilities, a minibar and a safe in the room. The possibility to rent bicycles at the hotel is nice for the cyclists among the guests. On the ground floor is a guest sitting room for communal use.
