Damme lies in West-Vlaanderen, a region that if perfect for hiking and biking. The hotel has a secured bike shed. The Maerlantroute passes through Damme, Sluis, Aardenburg and Middelburg and the Smokkelroute takes you along spots that were used by smugglers between Belgium and the Netherlands.

Hotel de Speye lies close to Bruges and the Belgian coast. The medieval town of Damme offers plenty of monuments, such as the town hall, the Sint-Jans hospital and the town ramparts. On a bicycle you can make beautiful trips in the surrounding polder landscape. The wonderful city of Bruges with its historic centre is just 4 kilometres away. In summertime it is also fun to spend a day at the beach.
