Hotel Krasnapolsky is simply the best

Hotel Krasnapolsky is the # 1 place in Amsterdam to stay because they are excellent in major categories that we consider important (room/apt size and quality, service, price, location, restaurant). We have never had a bad visit or anything to complain about in a over a dozen visits to the hotel, the most recent being December 2009, where we stayed in the Apartments, which I highly recommend for couples. The staff is well trained and the management is super friendly. In a sad note, we were bumped from our KLM flight and this cost us two days vacation, cutting our reservation from 8 nights to 6 nights. I e-mailed Hotel K and they had all of our arrangements covered when we arrived. In fact, we have a favorite or preferred apartment overlooking the canal and they had it waiting for us when we arrived, and even let us check in early ... now that's outstanding service!

The one down side to staying at Hotel K is parking, if you happen to have an automobile. But, this applies to ALL HOTELS in central A-dam where the use of a car is all but impossible. Even at the Schipol Airport Hilton Hotel, parking costs are very high, so there is no relief if you're driving a vehicle. At $40EU+ / day, be sure to take the vehicle out of your "vacation equation" when visiting Amsterdam, and you'll have less headaches.

Great location but apartment small and difficult to like.

Location. UK TV. It's all good.

Desk is in the wrong room. Should be in the living area. Working from the apartment I found I spent all my time in the bedroom, sleeping or working. The lounge/dining/kitchen area I used as a big entrance hall only. And the apartment is a little cramped for space. Stairs too steep for the frail - no lift. Internet expensive. Difficult to like the apartment.

Excellent facilities, prime location, reasonable price

Excellent location. Large apartment with windows at both ends (one over the summer garden and the other over the alley parallel to Dam Straat). Entrance on the alley leading to only two apartments. Air conditioning. Full kitchen. Overall, very comfortable and situated in the heart of the city.

Can be a little noisy at night. I assume the windows are single pane glass because conversations in the alleyway can be heard clearly inside.

Another Great Trip to Amsterdam

This was our 12th trip to Holland since 2000. Another wonderful stay, our second stay in 2008. Everything was exceptional with the Apartments! I'd highly recommend the Hotel K Apartments to anyone visiting Amsterdam. The location is central to everything that is great about A-dam.

Location: A minor nuisance is the Drug dealers at the back of Hotel K on the Canal adjacent to the apartment entrances selling hard drugs on the sidewalks (cocaine, heroine, ecstasy, etc). As you approach, they try to gauge your interest by whispering "Cocaine" or whatever they sell. We advise anyone who passes them on the way to your apartment to simply ignore them or politely say "No Thanks". Do not engage in conversation with them, and you'll have no problems. After a few days, they stopped approaching us.

Very happy with newly renovated apartments

I was very happy with the recent renovations to the apartments. In particular, the additiona of air conditioning was a major improvement. It appears the units were completely updated, including two flat panel televisions, new floors, new kitchen, etc. I had stayed in the same unit in 2007 and the changes were very dramatic.

The only real minus point about the apartments is a lack of elevator access. This was only a problem for me when carrying luggage and you can get the staff to help you if required. However, if you are too infirm to climb steep stairs, you should ask for a ground floor unit.

We visit Amsterdam every year and have stayed with your hotel three consecutive years. We love the location of your hotel, the friendliness of your staff and the excellent room service.

Our stayed was completely ruined by the constant maintenance issues. The external window frames of our apartment were being painted and we were woken very early each morning to the banging of workmen and the stink of paint fumes (my partner is asthmatic!). We couldn't use our bathroom first thing on our second morning because the men were sanding and painting the bathroom window which they had propped open. As you can imagine, this was a very uncomfortable 3.5hr wait!! The following morning we had no hot water for bathing and maintenance didn't resolve the issue until 3pm! We also had workmen in our apartment two days in a row painting the balcony doors forcing us to leave for lunch. All in all we had 2 peaceful days out of the 7 stay holiday, that might I add cost us nearly EUR2,000!

The household amenities, such as beverage packages, detergent, etc., have been supplied and placed in the room before. But we did not find those in this time, which made us a bit disappointed. Further we did not have home video any more.

The fifth stay for my wife and myself in a Krasnapolsky apartment in the last four years. We have not even looked at other accomodations when visiting Amsterdam due to consistently good services here, clean and quiet apartments, and no surprises or problems. With the tram lines running through Dam Square and Centraal Station being just up the street, you can go anywhere in the city or out of it for a day trip elsewhere quickly and with ease.

Missed the in-room customer information menu via the TV (billing status, etc.) from previous visits, but TV service was in the process of being changed and upgraded at the time.

Staff responded rapidly to all requests - a vase, extra towels, garbage pick up, etc.

The bed, a double, is too small. And while the private entrance to the apartment was great, at night the area outside was occupied by men apparently selling drugs. If I were a woman traveling alone - in this case I was with my husband - I would not have felt safe.

Proximity to Dam Square, RLD, coffeeshops, central station, Rembrandt Square, and the Leidseplein. Washer/dryer unit was helpful. The cd player/radio was enjoyable...but no dvd player. Helpful business office people.

Apartments are old...NO Elevators, we had to carry our bags up 3 flights of narrow stairs to our 3rd floor room, no help from porters. In fact no one even showed us to our room, we got lost trying to find it until a porter pointed the way out (but did not show us) Apartments are located in an alley behind the hotel, we had to walk through the kitchen area to get to the apartments. No screens on windows=mosquito bites! Uncomfortable beds (too soft), uncomfortable kitchen chairs (too hard)! 2 separate keys for the rooms...a card key for the room and an Apartment key for the lower doors. Couldn't they consolidate into one card key? Very expensive. 2 weeks regular apartment=$4800.

Location was excellent. Having laundry and full kitchen was very good. Nice little balcony. Good to have so much space compared to a hotel room even in junior apartment. In general nice and quiet. Stayed for 8 nights and had it serviced ion the middle of the stay. Good ot have the option of using hotel facilities. English instructions for washing machine. Nice gown and toiletries and plenty of spares.

To not be serviced every day for the price was not great. Smelled of smoke. Little noisy neighbours one night below. No air con but nice wiht windows open. No washing powder provided for laundry. No liquid for dishwasher.

Very nice accomodation, comfortable beds, very central location. Staff friendly and helpful. Check in and check out though they seemed rather overwhelmed by the numbers of guests. I stay every year or more often and would not choose anywhere else.

Video players still ...amazingly...provided. Ditch these and provide DVD players I suggest. Coffee and tea were not replenished and we never had any sugar at all. But then i couldnt be bothered to phone housekeeping.

Great location, quiet, private, good size, fridge, stove, two TV's, DVD, stereo, reasonable price, free access to WiFi from Bulldog next door in that room. I would definitely book there again in the future.

No air conditioning, no screens on windows so when i had the windows open because of the heat I got a lot of mosquitos in at night (it was quite warm for several days on my trip), no elevator (only really a problem with the bags first and last day). Internet access is too expensive.

The staff was very helpful. The appartment was simply beautiful. I hope to stay there again.

Someone needs to check if there is coffee and tea and if the floor has been vacumed. This was not done prior to my check in. A minor oversite,but still something that shoul have been done. But when pointed out, this was taken care of immediately. Also plan for large group check ins. I had to wait almost 2 hours for my luggage to come to my room. This had me worried because I saw all the signs that the hotel was not responsible for my luggage.

Hotel workers are very friendly and room is very nice, quiet and clean. We are very satisfied with this appartment except one thing.

1. Last time we had bath tub in our apartment room, but there was only shower this time. 2. For both of checking in and out time, guests including us were waiting for long time. They should increase front desk worker for at least checking in and out time.

Really nice appartment with an atmosphere in the very center of Amsterdam.

Nobody takes out the litter during the whole week. There is a very big litter bin that starts smelling after a number of days and it has just one litter bag inside. we would appreciate having there spare litter bags available or somebody removing the litter every second or third day.

The location is the absolute best and the cost compared to other lodging in the area can't be beat, just don't expect luxury.

The apartments are in desperate need of repair and upgrades, of the 5 apartments I've stayed in over the past 2 years, I would consider them at best 2 star quality. The business office is also lacking when it comes to fulfilling even the simplest of task.

Believe that this might have been the best deal in Amsterdam for the New Year's holiday! Definately exceeded my expectations and will be recommended to all of my friends.

The apartment was a bit cool and drafty even with the heat turned all the way up but given the top floor location and open beam ceiling this was perhaps to be expected in January and was certainly compensated for by the architectural appeal.

As with our previous two stays, the service and professional attitude of all your staff could not have been better. The apartment was in good condition and very clean. The wireless internet and Swisscom connection in our apartment was great and very easy to set up and use, a definite plus.

The only negative comment I have (and the reason for the "5" rating for "service") is the television/vcr arrangement and the available TV channels. With VCR's being all but obsolete these days, I am very surprised that there has not been an upgrade to a DVD player. As to the available (free) TV channels, again a bit surprised that there are so few and exactly the same as we had on a visit two years ago. Improving this would greatly enhance the enjoyment of a stay, especially considering the number of days that Amsterdam weather might make it less enjoyable to spend time outdoors. Lastly, with the high caliber of your hotel and its amenities, it would be nice to see the old style tube-type TV's upgraded to larger flat-panel types (such as an LCD).

Great location and views over canals, Red Light Dist Coffee Shops, Easy access to shops. DVD works well and useful washing machine and tumble dryers. Best of all is the beds. Very comfortable and quite rooms.

2 Bed Apartment- cleaning needs more attention dirt and cobwebs around the corners. Cooker slow, Kettle only suitable for 2 cups and very,very slow to boil. Proper oven would be useful. Heating works well and overall a nice feeling of comfort. Hotel could put Crimbo decorations up and a real tree. TV too small.

The living area had not been fully maintained. The fridge door was loose and light bulbs had not been replaced. There were no proper instructions on the washing machine and spin dryer. Should have been informed that there was no lift access.
