Traditional cuisine in Amsterdam
There is something for everybody in the culinary field in Amsterdam. On just one street you are likely to run into cuisines and menus from all over the world. The culinary delights range from spicy Thai food to healthy vegetarian snacks, from Turkish kebab to Indonesian rice tables.
But sometimes all you need is good, simple traditional food. Traditional Dutch food consists of dishes such as pork saté, mussels or grandmother's hot pot stew. The French cuisine is also considered to be traditional, as many classic dishes originate in France. You can enjoy these classic dishes, sometimes with a modern twist, in many traditional restaurants. This mixture of Dutch and French is always a tasty start to your night out.

This restaurant is situated in the city district de Pijp, just off the city centre. The phrase A la ferme refers to life on a farm. The restaurant uses mostly organic produce and you will mainly find dishes on the menu with a French touch.

't Blaauwhooft

Herrie
This restaurant was established by chef Herman den Blijker. A chef was then chosen to run Herrie (Noise in Dutch) through a TV programme. You can take a peek in the kitchen, where the dishes are prepared using fresh, high quality ingredients. Cocktails and finger food are served on the top floor and dishes such as carpaccio and plaice are served in another area. Booking well in advance is advisable.

Inside the beautiful, historical building of the Waag you can enjoy game dishes, fish or vegetarian meals. Wine suggestions are available with every meal. This restaurant is also worth a visit during the day, because the building was already founded in 1488. Pier 10
From Pier 10 you have a spectacular view across the river IJ. This former shipping line office was added to the list of Rijksmonumenten (National Monuments) in 2001. The restaurant serves seasonal dishes, as well as daily specials with the freshest fish and meat.
