Belgian Ardennes
The Ardennes lie in southern Belgium and the region includes parts of the provinces of Liege, Namur and Luxembourg. It is a wonderful area to spend a weekend or a short or longer holiday. You can spend hours in the vast woods and nature reserves, but the landscape offers so much more. Spectacular river valleys and beautiful rock formations and meandering rivers like the Ourthe, Lesse and Semois. You can walk, climb, canoe and visit caves and there are many places where you can go mountain biking or make beautiful trips through the varied landscape.
Culturally too, there is plenty to see in the beautiful region. Picturesque towns such as Stavelot for example, or the ancient thermal baths in Spa. A number of villages and towns have a citadel or fortress and scattered through the landscape are castles and abbeys where the monks still brew their Trappist beer. Belgium is a country of gourmands and there are many culinary delights to enjoy in the Ardennes. For example, the famous Ardennes ham, pate, trout, game and delicious regional dishes. You can enjoy a cup of coffee or Belgian beer on a terrace and and when the weather gets colder you can relax with a good glass of wine by the fireplace.
