Church of Our Lady in Bruges
The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk, or Church of Our Lady in Bruges has various architectonic styles. The build was started at the beginning of the 13th century, on the foundations of a former roman chapel. It took 200 years before the church was finished.
Together with the towers of the Belfry and the St. Salvator's Cathedral, the 122 meter high tower dominates the Bruges skyline. The tower was built around the beginning of the 14th century, but the steeple was added more than a century later. In the Church of Our Lady are the tombs of Karl the bold one and his daughter Maria of Burgundy, the latter one is buried here as well. Inside the church is a famous piece by Michelangelo, Madonna with Child. You will also find the thirty scutcheons of the knights of the Golden Fleece, which was founded by the duke of Burgundy in 1430.
