Vermeer Centre in Delft
The famous 17th century painter Johannes Vermeer was born in Delft in 1632. He is one of the most famous Dutch artists of the Golden Age and was a contemporary of Rembrandt.
The Vermeer Centre Delft is situated on the site where Vermeer regularly went to visit the St. Luke Guild, the guild for painters and artists, which he later came to head. Here you can take a visual journey of exploration into the life and work of the 17th century master and the history of Delft. The Vermeer Centre Delft is the only place in the world where life-size digital copies of all 37 paintings are brought together and are on display.
The Mauritshuis in The Hague have some of his 'real' works, such as the world-famous 'View of Delft' and the 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam also owns some of his paintings.
