Hieronymus Bosch Art Center
The Hieronymus Bosch Art Center in Den Bosch (or Jheronimus Bosch in Dutch) offers an overall picture of the work of the painter Hieronymus Bosch, who lived in Den Bosch all of his life. His father was also a painter. Reproductions of all of Hieronymus Bosch's paintings are on display in the tower of the building. Here you also have a wonderful view of the city. In the basement is a 15th century studio where you can have a go yourself!
Hieronymus Bosch is known for his satirical depictions. Many themes in his work refer to sloth, lust, greed, envy, gluttony, wrath and pride. During the Middle Ages, sins played a major part in everyday life. In the work of Hieronymus Bosch, heaven and hell are recurring elements. Famous works of his are 'The Garden of Earthly Delights', 'The Haywain' and 'The Last Judgement'. His works can be found in museums all over the world, one of which is the Prado in Madrid. In the Netherlands, the works 'Hell and the Flood' and 'The Wayfarer' can be seen in the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
