Historisch Museum Deventer
In the inner city of Deventer, at the centre of de Brink is the monumental weighhouse (Waag) from 1528. the Historical Museum Deventer, is located in this magnificent building. The many highlights from the rich history of this ancient Hanseatic city comes to life in this museum. The permanent collection of the museum consists of the history of Deventer, modern arts and a large number of landscapes. Also archaeological finds from prehistory to the Middle Ages are exhibited. In particular, the discovery of an urn containing cremated remains is something special
The glory of the Middle Ages starts at the founder of the city Lebuïnus (770 AD). You can see a replica of the city from around 1400, the important role of the trader's guild or a model of the 'Bornholm' cog ship.
The grandeur of the 17th and 18th centuries is well represented by silver goblets, the delicate satin dress of one of the women from the city council and the Counsellor's goblet of Mayor Adriaan van Boekholt's. This gold plated silver goblet is a true showpiece with all its decorations of animals, cupids, vines, fruits and flowers.
The collection of the history of Deventer is on display permanently. The other collections are on display temporary. Furthermore there are daily tours at the museum and the Tourist Information Office of Deventer has an office in the buliding.
