Speelgoedmuseum Deventer
The Speelgoedmuseum (Toy Museum) in Deventer is housed in two late medieval merchant houses at the Brink. Here you will find toys which the children of The Netherlands have played with, whether it's toys from now or 500 years ago.
Throughout the museum, there are play areas with very special toys. You can see a speeding trainshow at the exhibition Spoorkracht. Impressive train sets, powerful sounds and short movies let you travel through the world of model railways. Or take a peek through the little windows of several dollhouses, doll shops, doll rooms and admire the miniature furniture. There is also a doll fixer-upper. At the workspace you can see the production process of various dolls.
The mechanical toy collection with more than 100 years old hand-painted clowns and beautiful tin cars in the collection is a winner. Or visit the exhibition Spelen met je ogen (Playing with your eyes). At this exhibition everything is not what it appears to be. Optical toys using the effects of lenses, light and shadow, perspective and mirrors use the fact that ones brains sometimes 'see' other things than ones eyes.
At the Play attic young and old can build the most beautiful constructions with Kapla or Lego. The little ones can play with the wonderful wooden toys.
The Toy Museum is a museum for all ages. A true feast of recognition and plenty of fun when you see the favorite toys from your youth!
