Gooi- en Vechtstreek
Hilversum is the largest and most important city in the Gooi en Vechtstreek. This place is primarily known for the many broadcasting companies based here, as well as the interesting buildings designed by architect Dudok.
The region itself is better known for very different reasons. Status and wealth have always gone hand in hand with the Gooi. This is only confirmed by the vast amount of stunning villas, the nearby Soestdijk Palace and Drakensteyn Castle, all signalling that the Netherlands was a very progressive and rich nation during the Golden Age.
Nature lovers will enjoy the beautiful woods, the drifting sands at Soestduinen, the lakes near Loosdrecht and the IJmeer and Gooimeer. Huizen, Naarden and Muiden also have very well equipped marinas.
