Overijssel
Overijssel is a surprisingly versatile and hospitable province. The combination of the rich culture of the gorgeous old Hanseatic cities and the beautiful landscape, dotted with castles and countryhouses is what makes this province so attractive. The provincial capital of Zwolle has a cosy, almost car-free, centre where you can wander around and shop for hours.
Overijssel abounds with beautiful scenic areas. The hilly Sallandse Heuvelrug is a wonderful area for walking and cycling. Water lovers will want to visit the well-known villages Staphorst and Giethoorn, the 'Venice of the North'. Nature parks Weerribben and De Wieden are ideal areas to explore from the water. Twente is a pleasant area with a number of old folk customs still in use. Beautiful estates and picturesque old towns are characteristic of this region.
