Description
Merchants from all over Europe entered Deventer along the IJssel river via the so-called Vischpoorte gate. This historic spot is named after the nearby fish stalls that used to sell fresh and salt water fish. It was one of the oldest and most important gates of the old Hansa town. Deventer has many medieval streets and alleys, historic warehouses and hundreds of restored monuments. On the city square de Brink you can find the oldest weighing-house of the Netherlands and the oldest stone house is also situated in Deventer.

Surroundings
Hotel De Vischpoorte is located in the Hansa town of Deventer. Around Deventer and in the Salland region there are many hiking and bicycle routes. A trip will take you along country estates, mansions, castles and numerous historic farmhouses. The scenic area Sallandse Heuvelrug is situated between the towns Hellendoorn and Holten and offers far stretching views of heath and woods.

- A parking spot costs €10 per day (from 13:00 to 13:00 h.) plus a deposit of €30; you need to reserve a spot in advance. Across the 'IJssel' river you can park for free. From there you can take the foot-passenger ferry (€1.35 for a two-way ticket) across the water, to about 20 metres from the hotel. Please note: the ferry is available between 08:00 and 20:00 h. and on Sunday the first ferry leaves at 11:00 h. There are public parking spaces in the vicinity as well, where you can park at an additional charge. You can park your bike for €2.50 per night.
