Surroundings
Edam is a small city with a rich history that dates back to the 12th century. This history can still be seen today, as you walk along the many picturesque canals and gables, and see the old streets, alleyways and bridges. Also, the Edams Museum, the 'Kaaswaag' (cheese weighing house), the 'Grote Kerk' (church), and the 'Speeltoren' (bell tower) can be visited. Edam has a lively city centre with various shops and terraces. The city is mostly famous for its large round cheeses and every Wednesday in July and August Edam hosts a traditional cheese market.
