Description

Hotel de Harmonie is located along a moat in the historic centre of Edam. In earlier days this moat was used by sailing ships as a connecting water way to the former 'Zuiderzee', which is now known as the 'IJsselmeer'. De Harmonie functioned as a pension for the sailors. This small-scale hotel is situated above a café, which organises events every day, such as a bridge night or a salsa course. On Friday nights one can mingle with the locals and on Sunday nights there is often live music or a jam session. The five spacious hotel rooms each have private stairs. The rooms are equipped with a shower, toilet and a small kitchen. Hotel guests can use the washer and dryer. All rooms are non-smoking.

In the historic centre of Edam you can find nice shops and monumental buildings with beautiful façades. Every week during summertime there is a cheese market, which always attracts large crowds.

Food and Drinks

In the hotel one can enjoy breakfast between 08:30 and 9:30h.
The Harmonie is located above a café. Every Wednesday there is a buffet with fresh sole, which is prepared by fishermen. On Sunday afternoons there often is love music at De Harmonie. Near the hotel there are several restaurants and bars as well.

Surroundings

Edam is a town with nice shops and lively outside terraces. Water sports enthusiasts will also enjoy this place; just outside the centre one can find the 'Strandbad', on the banks of the lake 'IJsselmeer'. From Edam it takes only half an hour to reach Amsterdam by car. Near hotel De Harmonie there is also a frequent bus connection to the Dutch capital. Charming towns such as Volendam, Hoorn and Marken are nearby as well.

Anonymous Expensive for what you get: 12 April 2010; 4.8; + Staff is friendly. Linen and towels were clean, room has kitchen with dishes.; - Glass doors do not have black-out and porch light is right in front of room. Can hear noise from pub downstairs, other rooms, porch and stairways. Parking is difficult. Only accepts cash.

Carine Next time in EDAM? don't miss this B&B place: 24 August 2008; 9.6; + very pleasent place, nice little house with view on the the small canal. nice people welcoming us upon us arrival. excellent breakfast in the morning. we were sad to leave, next time we will stay a bit longer. will come back soon :-); - bed in the room was a bit limit for tall people. nevertheless we had a good nite.

David Ferguson van Scotland: 21 October 2007; 8.6; + I enjoyed my stay at this wonderful and welcoming hotel. Everyone on ths staff was friendly and helpful especially the owner and one of his staff, Anna, who gave me lots of useful information about the local area and the entertainment that was on at the cafe during the course of my stay. Most of all I was made to feel welcome by the locals and I enjoyed my many conversations with them. As well as being surrounded by wonderful countryside, Amsterdam is only 30 minutes away by bus an ideal location for relaxing and enjoying all that The Netherlands has to offer! Definitely coming back here!; - None whatsoever my only regret is not having stayed at this location before!

Nick Oosterbaan: 16 August 2006; 6.2; + 1. Wonderful location along the canal in the old town of Edam. Fun to walk along the old streets in the village and the hotel was very handy to everything. We parked nearby and walked everywhere we wanted to go. 2. Rustic in style. All the rooms are right under the roof; charming as long as the weather is cool. Our room was quite large and included a kitchen area.; - 1.The toilet had not been properly cleaned after the previous guest. 2. We encountered several spiders, which we killed. 3. The refrigerator had a bad stale food odor. 4. In general, not as nice as advertized, and not equal for the money to any other place we stayed. Rooms under the roof are far too hot in warm weather; can't leave windows open at night due to mosquitoes and safety (any intruder could easily climb in one of them.) 5. Sound from the bar below (talking and music) carries through the floor. We had to stay up until about 1:00AM before it quieted down.

Eslamipour Schoene Lage und gute Atmosphaere aber zu teuer fuer diesen Standard: 26 June 2009; 7.8; + Das Hotel-Cafe Harmonie hat uns zwar gut gefallen- (Lage, Atmosphaere...) allerdings ist es fuer dies Standard einfach zu teuer (90,-euro pro Nacht). Es ist zwar alles da, auch Kochzeile , aber alles schlicht und einfach, 65,- bis hoechstens 70,- euro waeren angemessen.; - Preis zu hoch! Nichts fuer evtl. Gehbehinderte (recht steile Holztreppe), Rohr der Kuechendunstabzugshaube direkt vor dem Fenster.

Cora Eigenaar moet zich bij zijn kroeg houden: 3 May 2009; 4.2; + in centrum gelegen; - Veel geluidsoverlast dat niet op website of anders bekend kon zijn. Eigenaar meldde dat tot 10 uur live muziek zou zijn, voor ons acceptabel, dit bleek tot 01:00 uur te zijn. Bij navraag bleek dit altijd zo te zijn. De eigenaar geeft dus valse voorlichting. Een nota kon niet gegeven worden.

A. Erdhuizen Het was gezellig!: 4 January 2009; 9.2; + Het was gezellig, gastvrij, schoon. We hebben een leuk weekend gehad, en dat kwam mede door deze overnachting!; - Egenlijk niets, we waren alleen benieuwd waar we het pand boven moesten verlaten bij eventuele brand. Verder alles tiptop!

B.A.G Hoitink: 25 February 2008; 8.2; + Perfekte ontvangst,zeer gezellig cafe voor handen, mooi grote komplete kamer en tot slot erg aardige mensen. Een simpel maar goed ontbijt!! Wij waren erg blij met het geheel; - de 7 voor comfort heeft te maken met voor oudere mensen de trappen buiten,voor jongere mensen geen enkel probleem,voor ons als 60 plussers ook niet.

H.P. van Elden: 10 June 2007; 5.6; + Mooie ligging in het historische centrum van Edam.; - Dit is qua voorzieningen een simpel hotel, niets mis mee. De prijs is echter, mede door het karige ontbijt, hoog.

Maria Lammers: 5 June 2007; 4.2; + Es gibt über dieses Hotel nichts Positives zu berichten.; - Nach Buchungsbestätigung konnten wir um 14 Uhr die Zimmer beziehen. Wir wurden erst um 18:15 in das Hotel eingelassen. Der Hotelier war trotz verschiedener Bemühungen nicht zu erreichen. Es war nur 1 DZ frei(3 DZ waren bestellt und bestätigt!) Wir erklärten uns bereit mit 7 Personen 2 DZ zu belegen bei Preisnachlass. Aus dem Preisnachlass wurde leider nichts, der Hotelier war am anderen Morgen nicht mehr zu erreichen. Eine vietnamesische? Servicekraft konnte uns nicht verstehen und ihren Chef nicht erreichen!
