Hotel De Fortuna is located in five characteristic mansions that are typical for the province Noord-Holland. The picturesque family-run hotel has an equally lovely location. The hotel is located on the water. Here guests can relax and enjoy themselves among the beautiful plants and flowers.

All rooms breath a warm atmosphere and are equipped with a bathroom with a toilet and a shower or bath. Additionally, the rooms have a telephone, television, and a well-stocked mini bar. In the room guests can make their own cup of coffee or tea. There is also an information package that gives a lot of facts and suggestions about Edam and its surroundings.

Food and Drinks

The breakfast buffet is served from 07:30 to 10:00 h. On request guests can have breakfast at a later or earlier time. In the a la carte restaurant guest can have lunch every day from 12:00 to 15:00 h. Guests can have dinner starting from 18:00 h. The restaurant is open on Sunday from 17:30 h. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance. In the restaurant guests are served seasonal specialities that are traditionally prepared. The dining room breathes an authentic Dutch atmosphere. After dinner guests can have a nice drink in the atmospheric bar and on sunny days guests can have dinner in the garden as well.

- The hotel does not have a 24-hour reception. Guests can check in until 24:00 h. Guests who wish to check in at a later time need to contact the reception.
- An additional bed can be placed in the room on request, at a charge of €27.50 a night.

Surroundings

Edam is a small city with a long history that dates from the 12th century. This can be seen clearly as you walk along the many picturesque canals, streets, alleyways, bridges, and gables. Additionally, Edam has an atmospheric centre with many nice shops and lively terraces. Edam is especially famous for its large round cheeses. Every Wednesday in July and August there is a traditional cheese market. Guests can also enjoy a good bus connection to Amsterdam.

Next time we would ask for the room with more space, which the good owner-manager said they have.; - we only were not sure about the free parking card that apparently was supposed to go back to the hotel as they told us in a email after we had left, my lovely wife threw it away. Sorry about that. There is no parking on the property.

Erwin De Smeytere Fijn logeren: 6 August 2011; 8.0; + Er kan rustig geslapen worden in EDAM . Uitstekend bed. Door beperkte kamers is er weinig lawaai. Mooi uitzicht op kanaal . Goed ontbijt . Uitstekende menukaart per persoon , de zalm was TOP en proffesioneel opgediend voor een 25 â¬ per persoon. Steeds vriendelijk personeel met kennis van hotel/restaurant . Bus naar Amsterdam - Purmerend Volendam op wandelafstand, echter Volendam beter met auto want bus is er duur. (6 â¬ per rit of 9 â¬ per dag); - Kamer wat verouderd en niet groot voor deze prijs , stemmen goed te horen van buur , maar is slechts een opmerking en was echt geen probleem . Parkeren bij het hotel slechts 4 u max. , maar er kan aan de receptie een speciale parkeerkaart voor hele dag gevraagd (zijn beperkt echter).

Eine abendliche Gewittersituation wurde souverän gemeistert und die Gäste konnten ohne Hektik vom Garten nach innen umziehen. Die Lage des Hotels und die gesamte Anlage ist einmalig schön.; - Die Parkplatzsituation muss kreativ gemeistert werden, eigene Parkplätze fehlen. Die Zimmer sind sehr liebevoll eingerichtet, aber sehr klein.

Peter Partsch Für Städtereisen und Kurzurlaub mir Einschränkungen gut: 6 June 2011; 6.6; + Die Stadt ist sehr schön. Mit dem Bus kann man sehr gut nach Amsterdamm fahren z.B. . Das Hotel ist für kurze Städtereisen gut aber für Urlaub nicht.; - Betten sind durchgelegen. Schlafen ist in den Betten nur mit Kreuzschmerzen möglich. Für ein normales Essen werden 3 Std. benötigt. Die Dusche mit WC ist der Duschvorhang unmöglich. Parkplatz für PKW ist sehr unsicher. (Einbruch) Der Sitzplatz am Kanal für die Zimmer ist nicht freigehalten. Er wird von vielen Gästen benutzt.
