The atmospheric building that Grand Hotel de Doelen is established in, has a long history as a hotel. It was built in 1798 and has been a hotel for over 200 years. Many original elements from the past can still be admired here. The beautiful stained-glass cover at the top of the staircase is for instance a true eye-catcher. There are several terraces in front of the hotel that are always crowded on bright days and bring about a bustling atmosphere.

The hotel has a wonderful lounge that is decorated in a classical style, just as the rest of the hotel. It is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day in town. The rooms are equipped with every modern convenience, such as a private bathroom with a shower, bath and toilet, television, telephone and minibar. Apart from the standard rooms, the hotel offers VIP-rooms as well, which are provided with a private sauna, jacuzzi and air conditioning.

Groningen is a pleasant student town that is well-known for its diversity. As the 'metropole of the northern Netherlands' the city attracts people from the broad surroundings. This has resulted in a wide array of shops and a bustling nightlife. Groningen is certainly a dynamic city. Lovers of culture can also find anything to their hearts' content. There are many interesting historical sights and the renowned 'Groninger Museum' is definately worth a visit as well.

Food and Drinks

The breakfast buffet is set up in the lounge daily between 07:00 and 10:30 h. The adjacent café-restaurant 'De Drie Gezusters' is part of Grand Hotel De Doelen. It is the perfect place for guests to relax with a bite or a beverage. The kitchen is open until 21:00 h. Guests can also order dinner in the lounge.

  • + Locatie: pal in het centrum, dus goed bereikbaar + een prima startpunt. Redelijk sfeervol. Vriendelijk personeel.

Reserveer een kamer aan de achterzijde. - men bleek niet in staat om gedurende mijn vier dagen goed internet te regelen. Ook nadat "het hele kastje was vervangen" bleef de verbinding op mijn kamer moeizaam. (Ter compensatie kreeg ik vier keer gratis ontbijt - dat dan weer wel.) - Bent u slecht ter been, dan kunt u het hotel beter mijden. Of nadrukkelijk vragen om een kamer op een verdieping waar de lift komt

Great hotel, fantastic local
  • + Great location, we arrived 3hrs pass checking in time, but staff couldn't of been more helpful, even checking on Internet for us for dates of next years events. Room was clean, bed really comfortable, Saturday night was noisy, due to pub next door but was told upfront when booked. Already booked again for next year
  • – Only 2 requests use higher wattage light bulbs as room a little dark in evening to put make up on, also please move mirror to wall with sockets on. (Room 215).

Perfect location
  • + Very good location, the hotel is located at the 'Grote Markt' right in the centre. The personel was very kind, it didn't matter that we came 15 minutes earlier en left 10 minutes later than we had to
