NH Hotel De Ville is located in the heart of Groningen. Among the pleasant, narrow shopping streets and the vivid student life, any traveller will feel at home. Groningen is one of the largest student cities in the Netherlands and this is reflected in its atmosphere. Above the outlines of the beautiful city stands its pride and identifying mark: the Martinitoren.

NH Hotel de Ville offers all the facilities that can be expected of a 4 star hotel. Business travellers can use the extensive business centre and conference room that overlook the city. Furthermore the hotel has a laundry service, print and fax service and a cosy bar/bistro. The rooms are equipped with wireless internet, minibar, telephone with direct line and safe. On request, iron and ironing board are available.

NH Hotel de Ville is a luxurious 4-star hotel in the middle of Groningen. The narrow streets exhibit numerous specialty shops and university buildings. Being a genuine student city, almost one quarter of the population consists of students from the Rijksuniversiteit and the Hanzehogeschool. Groningen is blessed with many courtyards and guesthouses. These buildings were originally connected to monasteries and functioned as a safe haven for weary travellers, the elderly and sick. The Pelstergasthuis dates back to the 13th century and had several functions in the past. Nowadays, the guesthouses are lived in and usually accessible. Tours to the buildings are frequently organised.

Groningen has a couple of distinct buildings which are dominated by the Martinitoren. The tower was once 127 metres tall (417 feet), but was reduced in height during the bonfires which celebrated the departure of the Spanish troops. The tower is currently 97 meters tall (318 feet) and can be seen throughout many parts of the city. Tourists who are lost can easily find their way to the main square, the Grote Markt, by looking up and spotting the tower.

Food and Drinks

The extensive breakfast buffet is served from Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 11:00 h., on Saturday from 08:00 to 11:00 h. and on Sunday from 08:00 to 12:00 h.
In the beautiful 'garden room' guests can taste a wide variety of freshly baked bread, croissants and other kinds of delicious bread rolls. The kitchen focuses on Mediterranean food, with a seasonal menu. Culinary delights is provided in the form of three and four course menus as well as light bistro menus. Meals can be taken as a buffet. During summer the garden forms the backdrop for a delightful lunch or dinner. Additionally, the garden room and library can facilitate private dinners and lunches for 10 to 60 guests.

Surroundings

Groningen is a tranquil but lively city. Almost one quarter of its inhabitants are students and the city has a rich history. A large part of the North can be reached from hotel de Ville. The Northern coast, with its many fishermen's cottages and picturesque scenery, the source of inspiration for many Dutch painters, is well worth a visit. Within the hour the beautiful 'star fort' of Bourtange, a fortified village, can be found. The distinctive star shapes can be seen from the sky and even on satellite images.

Excellent breakfast. Kind staff. Comfortable room with spacious bathroom. Beautiful location. Complimentary wireless connection available without problem. Hotel within 10 minutes walk of train station.

Lovely hotel, but very hard bed

The hotel was in a great location, and most of your front desk employees were very kind. It was a nice quiet hotel, and being away from my family, I really appreciated and used the internet. Thank you very much for that. I loved the amenities in the bathroom--very woman friendly.

I didn't find the bed to be very comfortable--though I think that is partly because it was so different from what I am used to in Canada. The zipper on the hard mattress was frustrating for me.

The parking garage really was just around the corner, it was a piece of cake! And what a great breakfast to start the day with. Wonderful surrounding and good food.

It was a bit of a let down to find out we had to park our car ourselves,after the valet parking service was mentioned to us by one of your employees just minutes earlier... Your breakfast staff could have used some help. They seamed to be awfully busy, to busy to notice the guests much.

My first stay at the De Ville after it was taken over by NH Group wasn't a very good experience, however it as improved a lot since then.

The furnishings were stylish and the room had a really nice modern feel, with a big comfortable bed. The food was superb and well priced, with room service responsive and on time. These are the things that really matter :-)

The wireless network was unpredictable at the far corner of the hotel where I was, but they provided me with a network cable, which worked perfectly. Also the seat for the desk in the room was very hard and flat, which made a couple of hours work a little uncomfortable. TV channel options seem a bit limited - not that I watched it much. Very small points really.

The hotel locked its door at night, I would have been happier with a key than having to ring a bell to get in. The room was impersonal, needed some art on the walls or some flowers. The service on arrive was very poor, we told by the receptionist that if we discover that our room is not made up, then we should come back down to reception and they would find us another room! the room was not made up and we were relocated. There are no A/C in the rooms and it was very uncomfortable due to the heat. I had stayed at this hotel when it was privately owned but unfortunately since NH have taken it over the standard is very low and we will not be staying there again.

EVERYTHING ELSE! The hotel is gorgeous. The breakfast room a joy to eat breakfast in. The staff very helpfull and friendly. The lounge very loungeful! The location fabulous right in the middle of the center of Groningen. Will absolutely come back!!!!

The weekend bargain wasn't really that cheap and you got a small room used for single rooms. There was no thermostat so you had to turn all the heating elements which weren't that easy to reach on and off. The room was freezing when we got in. In the bathroom everything had been designed by tall (probably men) because you had to get on your toes to see the top of your head in the mirror and little room for stuff, make-up and such. Not very practicle though beautiful!

Best aan de prijs. Vieze zeep en shampoo op de kamers (stinkt naar zuurtjes). Ontbijt voor € 17,00 wat mager. Vooral de broodjes dat moeten geen kadetjes zijn, maar volkoren broodjes in diverse vormen.
