NH Hotel de Ville is a luxurious 4-star hotel in the middle of Groningen. The narrow streets exhibit numerous specialty shops and university buildings. Being a genuine student city, almost one quarter of the population consists of students from the Rijksuniversiteit and the Hanzehogeschool. Groningen is blessed with many courtyards and guesthouses. The Northern coast, with its many fishermen's cottages and picturesque scenery, the source of inspiration for many Dutch painters, is well worth a visit. Within the hour the beautiful 'star fort' of Bourtange, a fortified village, can be found. The distinctive star shapes can be seen from the sky and even on satellite images.
