Hotel het Paleis houses in an impressive monumental building, that was formerly used as a chemical laboratory by the University of Groningen. The old college halls are now being used for (business) meetings and approximately 70 creative companies have their office at Het Paleis.
The vibrant student city offers many activities and festivals. Within walking distance of Het Paleis lies the Grote Markt, a square where you can have a drink at one of the outdoor cafés in summertime. Groningen also boasts several interesting museums, such as the Groninger Museum, the Scheepvaart-/Tabaksmuseum and the Stripmuseum. The most striking feature of the city is the Martini tower, from where visitors have a lovely view of the city and its surroundings.
The comfortable hotel rooms have been designed by local artists and they are truly unique. Each room has a private bathroom with shower and toilet. Only the rooms for multiple persons share a spacious bathroom, which is located in the hallway. There is also a shared kitchen, perfect to make yourself a cup of tea, coffee, or a home-cooked meal. In the lounge you can watch some television or use the computer.
Food and Drinks
Breakfast is served on weekdays from 08:00 till 11:00 h. and on the weekend from 09:00 till 11:00 h. In Brasserie Het Paleis you are welcome for breakfast, lunch and dinner as of 08:00 h. The restaurant and the bar are open as of 15:00 h., the kitchen closes at 21:00 h. The restaurant is closed on Sunday except for Cultural Sundays (13 May, 1 July, 16 September, 28 October and 16 December 2012).

Other information
- The hotel does not have a 24-hour reception. Guests can check-in until 21:00 h. In the weekend guests can check-in from 15:00 h. till 18:00 h. Later arrival possible in consultation.
- It is not possible to pay with a credit card in the hotel.
- Pets are allowed on request for €7,50 a night.
- Luggage can be stored at the hotel (on request).
Surroundings
Het Paleis Groningen lies within walking distance of both the park Noorderplantsoen and the vibrant city centre with the Grote Markt square and the shops of the Herestraat. Standing in the centre of the Grote Markt you have a picture-perfect view of the Martini tower and the Town Hall. Shops and bars are all conveniently located near eachother. You are truly recommended to visit the city at the end of August, when the annual performing arts festival Noorderzon takes place in the park Noorderplantsoen.
