The hospitable Hampshire Hotel - Plaza Groningen has everything in store for a pleasant and relaxing stay. The hotel staff are happy to be of assistance and will gladly offer you tips and advice about nice excursions in the area. You can hire bikes at the hotel and enjoy a lovely cycling trip, and the hotel has a covered bike shed. The heated indoor swimming pool is free for hotel guests. The hotel has generous parking facilities and the bus stop is only a 5-minute walk away. You'll be at the train station within 15 minutes by bus.
The hotel is established in a typical example of industrial design. The triangular shapes of glass and metal are particularly striking. The reception area is especially impressive. High glass walls and steel constructions give this building an incredibly spatial feel. The hotel also offers a stunning view of the Hoornsemeer lake. The hotel rooms are warm and comfortably furnished with heavenly beds and an excellent bathroom with a shower and toilet. The rooms come with blackout curtains and are well insulated, ensuring a nice, quiet environment so that you wake up feeling completely refreshed.

Surroundings
Hampshire Hotel - Plaza Groningen lies in a stunning scenic area by the Hoornsemeer and Paterswoldsemeer lakes. You can enjoy a lovely cycling trip with hire bikes available at the hotel. It takes roughly an hour to cycle around the lakes. It's also nice to take a leisurely walk to the canal, where you can sit on the banks during the summer months and enjoy the passing boats. The historic city of Groningen is also great to explore from the water. Round trip boats depart adjacent to the train station. Groningen's intriguing nautical history is displayed in the Scheepvaartmuseum. The centre has a lively going-out scene, for example around the Grote Markt, where the Grand Theater and the Drie Gezusters are located, the Kromme Elleboog where the Pintelier is located, and the Kattendiep, where the Irish Pub and the Casino are located.
Food and Drinks
A breakfast buffet is available in the hotel's breakfast area on weekdays from 07:00 to 10:00, and at weekends from 07:30 to 10:30.
You can enjoy a nice lunch at the hotel's restaurant Culinas, which was recommended in the 2010 Michelin guide. The menu offers delicious and unusual dishes invented by the culinary brains of the kitchen, the chef. You can sample the chef's imaginative accomplishments in the restaurant's relaxing atmosphere. The menu changes on a regular basis and offers dishes such as smoked 'Zuidlaardermeer' eel. Only fresh, quality produce is used to prepare dishes. The kitchen is open for dinner from 17:00 to 21:00. You can enjoy a nice drink at the hotel bar, and the patio is open during nice weather.

Nice staff, Kitchen very good but a bit pricey (unless you're in a hurry eat in the centre- it's lovely) great views from upper levels, big rooms with fittings from Praxis and art from the Marskramer
–
They charge for sleeping in, even if you're working nights (most hotels don't) too far out for easy access to central Groningen, big faceless modern hotel chain.

Breakfast on Saturday morning was a disaster only two staff clearing away, was sent to a table that was occupied by other people. Then sent back to a table that was covered in uncleared dirty plates and cups.Had to ask for it to be cleared. No hot breakfast by the time it had been refilled we had had cold food and didn't wait.
*my tipGet down early for breakfast.

Good base for a city break.
+
The staff were very welcoming and very helpful. Excellent facilities including a good swimming pool and cycles for hire.
*my tipThis is essentially a business/conference hotel, but works well as a weekend break if one is happy to cycle into the city or take the bus. It also avoids the issue of where to leave a car in the centre of Groningen. The rooms are large but businessmen don't need mirrors over the table and the large double bed is of the two singles in close proximity variety. But, the weekend offers are so good that this is hardly an issue. The restaurant was surprisingly good even on a Sunday evening.

It's nice inside. The building is quite impressive for Groningen and the hall is relaxing.
–
I didn't like the room at all, the beds were the worst I have ever seen. The staff was not really friendly. They don't have any room service, you can't order a tea or something.
And you need a car or taxi to go somewhere.
I think the price for this hotel should be lower.
