Wonderful location and ambience
+
Terrific location.
Excellent service at the front desk
Helpful information.
Great jacuzzi
Nicely furnished room
Comfortable bed
–
Breakfast charge of 16 Euros was exorbitant. Needless to say, we did not have breakfast at the hotel.
Room had towels and bathrobe for 1 guest.
Additional towels were brought up quickly.
Pillows were uncomfortable, seemed like cheap quality. Comforter sheet was very clean but had holes.
Wireless internet service was terrible. Each time I went online, I was disconnected after a few minutes and had to reconnect, to be disconnected again. Very disruptive.
Maybe the room location was at fault?

The Place to stay in Groningen
+
Staff is great and location is superb, the accomodation is always fantastic as well and the breakfast is very good too
It was a real joy to stay in such a well-kept, well-run hotel
+
Excellent service and standard of English
Beautifully maintained historic building
Located in the centre of town
Real vaue for money
Own bakery adjoining the breakfast room - what could be fresher!
The beautifully ornate fixtures in the bathroom
–
Tiny points which prevented me from giving it a 10
TV remote was broken which meant sitting one metre away from TV if you wanted to watch
There was no wall mirror in the bathroom, just a pedestal mirror. OK for shaving for me but I can imagine ladies would require something bigger

very nice hotel
+
excellent location in the city centre; beautiful historic building and interior; particularly recommendable in summer because of wonderful courtyard/patio; we had a very nice room on third floor with a huge terrasse overlooking the courtyard; the room was simple but spacious and spotless clean; spacious bathroom with bath and shower; excellent breakfast
–
incredibly steep stairs leading to third floor (we had room 51) that require sporty climbing to get to the room (only feasible with light luggage !!); if you choose a twin bed room, be aware that beds are on rolls and drift apart with the slightest movement; very noisy on Friday and Saturday night (young people shouting in the streets - you can hear them even with the windows closed in winter !)

Disappointing night at Hotel Schimmelpenninck Huys
+
Good service in the restaurant.
–
Room was spotty and had only windows to a ventilation shaft/emergency escape stairway with no sunlight visible, very claustrophobic room. The décor, though, was fancy. The room was twin even though we asked for a double. Breakfast was of poor quality, nothing fresh was available (vegetables, fruit etc.), bread served on the table was still frozen from inside. When checking out the receptionist tried to âaccidentallyâ charge 50 euro extra on my card. Luckily I noticed before pushing ok on the PIN machine.

Beautiful ambiance, but breakfast can be improved.
+
The environment, the location in Groningen. The ambiance and the garden in the middle. Furthermore, the furnishment in the rooms: very romantic.
–
Unclarity at breakfast (what to get where/where to sit) and not enough bread, glasses and spoons. Service when having lunch in the garden can get better too (long waiting, putting the bill on roomnumber).

I don't come again
+
some effort but not overlooked the most important part - a quiet night of sleep!
–
noisy compressor all night and hot water pipes in the floor which heat up the room without a proper window to open up all the way.

Unique hotel
+
Very unique hotel, not the usual chrome and plastic!
–
No parking but it is arranged close by and stairways to rooms are very steep and narrow which with luggage makes things exciting!

charming, friendly, unique and useful location!!!
+
charming public spaces and clean comfortable rooms, light, open and individual each one (i've stayed before). excellent staff, good food esp. the breakfasts (fresh baked on premises breads etc.) it's one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in (biz traveller) because it feels homier than the usual on the road cookie cutter hotels!!!
–
paint on walls a bit in need of a refresh (in the halls and bedrooms mostly) but it's not really a big deal since everything you care about is clean and so nice.

Great hotel with friendly staff
+
The staff were wonderful, the room beautiful and clean, the lobby great with free Internet access and available computers. We got a room with an extra bed for a child and the room was very large. The staff helped greatly by calling the airport to resolve a luggage delay.
–
The beds were kind of lumpy/creaky. The breakfast was too expensive so we never tried it.

Low hanging lamps (2 meters, 6 feet 7 above the ground). Make for spectacular collisions, if you're more than that tall.
