Hotel Schimmelpenninck Huys has a rich history that dates back to the 12th century. The hotel is listed as one of the ten most important historic monuments of the city and owes its name to Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck, the Grand Pensionary of the Batavian Republic. In the Barokzaal (Baroque Room) the portraits of four politicians, of whom Schimmelpenninck is one, grace the uniquely decorated ceiling.
