+ The rooms are quite big.

- The hotel is old and the furniture is worn out. Needs replacement. The bathroom doesnt feel hygienic and the soap in the dispensor was also finished. Not staying here again.

+ Lovely (very large rooms!) with good ensuite facilities. The decor was really nice. Service was good and very helpful.

- Scored a mark lower for price/quality only because the hotel itself (not the rooms) feels a bit run down, like it used to be a grand hotel back in the day but not so much now. The price was fair though.

+ My room was recently decorated was clean and welcoming with a comfortable bed. I dined in the Japanese Restaurant at the side of the hotel the food and service was excellent and I would recommend this to others. The breakfast buffet was lovely with a good selection of fresh items to choose from including fresh fruit, yogurts and smoked salmon. The lady on reception was most helpful I was staying at the hotel while on business.

- The public spaces for example the corriders, landing and reception area were a little tired and were perhaps in need of a little TLC redecoration and maybe some new carpet. The hotel was very quiet and I came into contact with not one other guest not even at breakfast.

+ Postion , Recepcionist, Bedroom ( big ) and Bed ( big too ). There is a coffee machine (free use) in the bedroom.

- Hygiene. The first day I had to go to the reception becouse in my shower towel there was rests of the lastest costumer in brown color ( you know what I want to say...) and they change me the towels, but it was disgusting. ( I take a photo so believe me please, its true) They made the bed very baddly. And the dont dusting never!! There were a lot of dust! and they neither sweep anyday! It was the worst thing of that hotel! I say that becouse I hope that the read this and improve the hygiene.

- Hot, old fashioned and obviously in need of renovation of the facilities. Breakfast was bare minimum in terms of food standard for a hotel restaurant. Scrambled eggs were best avoided.

- Noise from boiler house (?) audible from my room 212 all night. changed to romm 207 for 2nd night due to noise where carpet was filthy. In reception there is a glass table with nothing on it which I managed to walk straight into and knocked over.

+ Bedrooms were roomy and clean. Service was excellent.

- The bells from the church opposite, particularly on Sunday morning. The hotel is a little tired looking and could do with a facelift. We also would have appreciated a bar + lounge.

+ Hilversum is only a 40min train ride from Amsterdam schipol airport. The train station is five min walk away from the hotel' and is situated in the town. Hilversum is itself a great place to visit for a weekend and has great shopping & Restaurants. Trains run on a regular basis to and from Amsterdam & Uctrect until the early hours of the morning.

- I did find that it was a little noisy at night as it has a theatre attached to it .

+ We loved the unusual design of the Hotel going back to the early 20th century. Reception people have been very helpful. Secure car parking. Nice to find tea making facilities, only hotel we have stayed in in the Netherlands.

- Severe lack of instructions on how to get to the hotel by car. With the one-way system it was very difficult to work out how to get there. Lack of safe in room.

+ Lovely hotel with a distinct and appealing architectural style. Staff were great and we were given a very spacious room well away from any noise. Tea and coffee-making facilities were available in the room which was a bonus. Breakfast was good, and the dining room it is served in, in the Grand Cafe, is a cut above the ordinary. All in all a most enjoyable stay. We will be using this hotel again on a return visit to Hilversum.

- Some of the light bulbs in the room did not work when we arrived. In all fairness, we did not report this so perhaps if we had, the problem would have been solved quickly. It wasn`t that important to us. The tiles in the shower area could have been scrubbed more thoroughly, but passed inspection.

+ nice big room (just like home) good equiped (although I prefer more modern design) Overlooking the street with the big church was a memory of my youth long ago in hilversum. Breakfast and dinner OK - friendly service in restaurant.

- the second room was much smaller and very simple, on the backside. Both rooms had the same price but far from equal. Somewhat a pity for my co-traveller whom I had invited. The receptionroom is somewhat chilly.

+ Kitchenstaff were superb. Even though the kitchen closes at nine, they were happy give me some food at 10pm when I arrived after my car had brokrn down.

- They tried to charge me separate for breakfast on the special B&B offer. If there's a concert at the theatre it will be noisy until about midnight.

+ Located in the heart of Hilversum in a beautiful 1930's building. Spacious rooms and public areas.

- Secure car parking is limited and not very secure; there was no heating running when we visited and we often ran out of hot water.

+ Excellent friendly reception staff who were very welcoming and helpful, found a kettle for us etc, etc.

- Our friends arrived from England at 22.00 hours and we were asked to leave the bar at 22.45 where we were having a relaxing drink. We felt this was a little early and would have appreciated an extra 15 minutes or so.

+ Good friendly service overall. Breakfast buffet not very good. Good value and some nice period architecture.

- No heating in the bathroom, which made it very cold. Wanted a late departure, at 1pm, but was told I would have to pay 50% of the daily room rate to do that. Normal departure time was 11 am so I wasn't asking for a lot. It seemed somewhat inflexible.

+ for us - location with respect to town centre, far away enough but not to far.

- Hotel needs to provide more towels in the room. We ( two people) were provided with two very small towels between us. Security of room with respect to windows needs improving. Is there a reason by dutch law as to having no tea making facilities in the room, not everybody wants to go to breakfast just for a cup of tea/cofee even though ours was already included in the price.

+ locatie is gunstig naast d winkelstraat en dicht bij treinsation Hilversum. service yoghurt was op toch had ze ergens nog 1 bakje kunnen regelen. prijs kamer voor moeder met kind was gunstig.

- kamer 309 was ontzettend heet, raam stuk en kon dus niet open staan, gevolg 30c in de kamer :-( 2x tijdens het ontbijt geen glazen voor drinken, op aanspreken personeel de 2e dag zeiden ze dat ik een kastje open moeste maken ja zeg ga niet zomaar kastje's open trekken !!! Ik vindt dit geen 4 steren hotel kamer die ik had kwaliteit ontbijt

+ Very Friendly service. Duikers bar has just opened, which is a great addition to the hotel. A nice enviroment to have a drink in the evening and have breakfast in the morning. A good location for Hilversum Media Park. Also a few metres away for the main shopping and drinking area (Great atmosphere in the summer months). BBC1 and BBC2 available on the TV (great for us brits).

- Can be a little noisey at night when staying at the front of the hotel. Needs double glazing perhaps. The TV shelfs in the rooms do not look safe enoght to support large TVs. (minor point).

- no air conditioning; couldn't really find where the 4 stars come from; it was said that the rooms overlook the garden and from what i've seen many rooms oversee the street and another portion overlook a HUGE wall - a bit misleading...

+ Friendly service. Good range of food for breakfast. Clean room.

- The pool/water feature was empty and the outdoor area which most rooms overlook is in desperate need of renovation. It looks totally different to the photos which must be at least 10 years old. Bar and restaurant closed (except for breakfast), it looks a bit like a once-thriving hotel that is now struggling. That didn't really affect our stay there though.

- The cleaning service left a bit to be desired. Although the rooms were cleaned everyday, we seem to have trouble getting the bathroom accessories (i.e. soap, facecloths, etc.). I think it might also help if there was the availability of a safe to lock up valuables.

+ Gunstige ligging omdat wij naar het Theater moesten, erg fijn dat we de kamer aan mochten houden tot na de voorstelling!

- Receptie/Lobby waren erg oud, waardoor het er vies uitzag! Niet echt 4 sterren.. De kamer was echter wel netjes en ruim! Jammer dat de ramen zo ontzettend veel kou door laten!

+ +mooie plek aan de rand van Hilversum +we hebben zelden zo goed geslapen in een hotel. Het was niet druk, de straat was rustig, we lagen op een rustige plek en de bedden waren precies goed.

- -wat een vergane glorie, het lijkt wel een hotel aan de Belgische kust dat al z'n grandeur heeft verloren... Prachtig gebouw, maar niet erg goed onderhouden en de kamer was echt hotel-anno-1981. -ik heb voor minder in veel mooiere kamers geslapen -ontbijt 15 euro pp is veel te duur.

+ Zeer vriendelijk bediening: na mijn opmerking dat kamer 101 onder mijn verwachtingen was (muf en zeer gedateerd) werd een betere kamer 303 aangeboden.

- Zeer gedateerd en kamer 101 kan eigenlijk niet in een zgn 4 sterren hotel.
