Score of 26 reviews: 8.2

Hotel Oranjeoord is an old lady in the hotel business, one that has been rejuvenated completely in 2006. The classical building dates from 1898 and was always beloved by the royal family. The interior underwent a thorough, yet respectful metamorphosis. The trendy and stylish rooms with warm accents beautifully complement the classical and authentic elements of the building.

The hotel is located in the middle of the nature reserve 'De Kroondomeinen', at 4 kilometres from Apeldoorn. The surroundings are perfect for a good walk in the adjacent woods. At the hotel guests can rent a bike on order to explore the woods and heaths, at a charge of €8.50 a day. Golf enthusiasts can pay a visit to the 9-holes golf course of the 'Veluwse Golfclub,' which is next to the hotel.

Guests can unwind in the sunroom, which has a beautiful view of the surrounding nature or in the beauty salon. The peace and quiet of the hotel's surroundings guarantee that you will have no problem sleeping in one of the comfortable beds. All rooms are different in set-up and design. The rooms are equipped with a bath and/or shower, toilet, telephone, alarm clock, radio, television, and Internet.

Lovely, full service country inn offering great value.
  • + We were given a suite for the price of a room and it was huge, with a balcony and large bathroom with tub. The room was fabulous. Staff allowed us usage of their washer/dryer for a load of laundry, free of charge - thank-you! Breakfasts were very good and plentiful. Friendly, most helpful staff. Great place.
  • Gorgeous balcony could do with a cleaning and/or repaint, but other than that no minus points.
  • * my tip If you are looking for a peaceful, superb quality small hotel in the Veluwe area, this is it. Located in the lovely countryside, yet minutes from Apeldoorn and Paleis Het Loo. Good place to relax.

Excellent food and country location
  • + Very good food Excellent location for Kroller-Muller art gallery and Veluwe park and Het Loo Royal palace
  • Decor needs improving eg lift area and rear of hotel

  • (Families with young children)
Nice stay but overpriced
  • + Nice location, spacious room for family
  • Wedding party held at the same time, so not a quiet place and extremely slow service at the restaurant for hotel guests. Also very impersonal and almost unfriendly reception. Prices quite high compared to quality. They seem to actively advertise hotel for wedding parties, so best to check before booking whether this is the case.

Great All-round Getaway!
  • + Fantastic family holiday winter 2009. Very attentive, responsive and flexible staff, friendly owner/manager, good mix of features in hotel -living rooms with fire place accessible to guests, good restaurant as well as separate brasserie with bar, excellent breakfast- and easy access to city (Apeldoorn), woods for walking and cycling, national park (Hoge Veluwe with Kroller Moller Museum) and kids' destinations (Openluchtmuseum, Zoo, Spelerij and Uitvinderij in Dieren, etc). Recommended for romantic couple getaway as well as family stay.
  • "family room" good to sleep as a family, but not really big enough to retreat to for an afternoon of reading or quiet. Some of the other rooms we saw seemed more suitable in that respect (e.g. with sofa and chair available, which our room did not have). However, this is a minor point as the hotel has a number of rooms on the ground floor which are much nicer to hang out in than the guest rooms. (e.g. one room with fireplace and large book collection where we -and our visiting guests- were served a fantastic "high tea" on Sunday).

Warm hotel for a cold winters day
  • + Warm welcome and very friendly personnel.
  • The early closing of the hotel at night was a bit strange. At 22h30 I had to wait 10 minutes before I could get in. Maybe because there weren't many guests this time of year?

  • + This lovely hotel has been remodelled and is under new ownership. The new owners and the fabulous staff made our stay a sheer delight from the moment we arrived. The restaurant serves fabulous food with a hint of the Indonesian flair that Holland is famous for, and the quiet Dutch countryside is the perfect setting for this jewel of a hotel. I recommend you have a car, because although the owners were incredibly gracious and provided us with transportation to all the things we wanted to see in their area, public transport in this part of Holland is less frequent than in other parts of the country. But the great beauty of Hoog Soeren and the Hogue Veluewe National Park more than offsets the effort required to get there, and the Hotel Oranjeoord is the crown jewel in this idyllic setting. We will definitely visit this hotel again on our next trip to the Netherlands.

  • + The staff were very helpful and polite and the food in the restaurant was excellent. I look forward to further stays at the hotel.
  • The room was advertised as having TV. While there was a TV in the room, the aerial cable was not long enough to plug into both the TV and the wall socket. Wires hanging from the ceiling and pipes from the floor were a minus point although I understand that renovation is in process.
