Ferry across the IJ river in Amsterdam
Let the wind blow through your hair, on board of a ferry. The boats will take you to the northern district of Amsterdam in just a few minutes. It is free of cost, and you could do it all day long!
The boats cross the IJ river, which used to be part of the Zuiderzee (Southern Sea). On board you will have a good view on the skyline, the harbour and large sea vessels.
Two of the ferry boats are for free. The destinations of these ferries are Distelweg and Buiksloterweg.
If you have some spare cash, you could take the boat which leaves for the Java-eiland (Java island). This addition to Amsterdam has been created only a few years ago, and therefore shows some good examples of modern architecture. Canal houses with a modern twist, architectural bridges and communal gardens make up a nice scenery.
The ferry boats leave behind Amsterdam Centraal Station, at docks 7 and 8.
