Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam
The archaeological museum of the 'Universiteit van Amsterdam' (University of Amsterdam) is named after Allard Pierson. He was the first Classical Archaeology professor at the University of Amsterdam. The collection contains numerous objects and artefacts from ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian cultures. Visitors get a good insight in daily life of these civilizations from ancient times. The objects date from 4000 B.C. until 500 A.D. Besides the permanent exhibition, the museum also organises temporary expositions on different themes such as music and the shipping industry.
The Allard Pierson Museum is located in the former office building of the Nederlandsche Bank, which was built in 1869 in Neoclassicist style.
