Anne Frank Huis in Amsterdam
The Anne Frank Huis (house) is the original hiding-place where Anne Frank wrote her world famous diary during World War II. This diary is part of the permanent exhibition in this museum.
Anne Frank had to live in this secret place for over two years, which was located above her dad's former office. This secret hiding-place has been kept in its original state. You can still see the innovative moving bookcase that was used as a door to reach the annex. On the 4th of August 1944, the family was betrayed and taken to different concentration camps. Only Anne's father, Otto Frank, survived this terrible ordeal.
The old annex still exudes a feeling from the Second World War. Historical documents, pictures and original belongings of the people in hiding illustrate these difficult times.
All the items in the permanent exhibition show both past and present issues. You can also take a virtual tour through the Anne Frank Huis. This tour includes some background information about all the people in hiding.
