Huis Marseille Amsterdam
Huis Marseille (Foundation for Photography) is Amsterdam's first photography museum and is located in a 17th century canal house. The monumental canal house with bottle-neck gable was built in 1665 for a French merchant who made his fortune by loading a ship in the harbour of Marseilles and setting sail to Amsterdam.
With a new exhibition every three months, Huis Marseille brings the rich history of the medium photography, and its various applications, into the spotlight. In contrast to its exhibition programme, which also includes historic photography, Huis Marseille's own collection particularly focuses on contemporary photography.
