Theatre Museum Amsterdam
In the theatre museum the spotlight is put on all forms of theatre, from the early Middle Ages to modern experimental works of the 21st century. The museum is part of the Theater Instituut Nederland and is located in two stately buildings at the Herengracht. You can check out settings and costumes and other theatre-related attributes or admire the costumes and photos of artists and divas from the 1930s. The museum was built in 1617. The owner was one of the governors of the West Indian Company. His name was Willem Van den Heuvel but as this was quite a common Dutch name he added his Italian father-in-law's name Bartolotti to it. This is why the house is also called the Huis Bartolotti.
