Museum Van Loon Amsterdam

Museum Van Loon is housed in a canal house which dates from 1672. It has a formal garden and a large collection of family portraits. The first resident of the house was the painter Ferdinand Bol, one of Rembrandt's most famous pupils. The Van Loon family moved to Amsterdam in the 16th century and several members held important positions as city mayors or had decisive functions in the Dutch East-India Company. In the early 19th century the Van Loons were raised to nobility and came to live in this house. The last resident of the house was a Dame du Palais of Queen Wilhelmina for forty years, and as such, invited important royal guests to the house.
